No "check for updates" in settings?

In Settings, scroll all the way to the bottom, and select "System". Software Updates is 3rd from the bottom. select that and there's the option to check for updates.

Re: No "check for updates" in settings?

I've been an android user forever...I'm familiar with the usual location. No, it's not there. Seriously. Nor under "about phone".

Phone is on Verizon. Maybe that's the issue? Don't really want to side-load w/ADB...as I understand it, that will wipe the phone?

Yeah, it'll wipe it... Android 8.x+ is bringing "Project Treble" where we should be able to update the OS independently (of any third-party compiling it specifically for the device), but even that requires 'special' partitioning so somebody upgrading from 7.x can't have it. :f

Btw., if you're going to flash the device, MAKE SURE that the ROM you're using has correct-everything, the region as well can sometimes make a difference between an upgrade and a brick. xD

WOW!!! Your settings menu is hugely different from mine. I don't know why, other than carrier changes that could cause this.

Edit: Just realized change could be cuz I'm already on 8.1.

Could it be in the "About Phone" menu? I swear I can't remember where I accessed it before. Old man...

I have to sideload using adb because I am on Sprint and it hasn't wiped my phone ever. The only time a wipe is guaranteed is if you are downgrading which requires you to unlock your bootloader. That will wipe the phone every time.

Clicking on it takes me to the "About Phone" info.
That's where it is, Over-The-Air (OTA) updates; screenshots from Lenovo Vibe C2 (K10a40)

EDIT: This device is Android 6.0 and (unfortunately!) it's no longer updated... I had to use a flash-tool to get the only minor update available (found online, no help from manufacturer), they supplied *no* OTA updates. Lenovo web site @https://support.lenovo.com/rs/en/solutions/ht501098

It's quite possible, unfortunately. A modified /custom version of Android, depending on your device. They do it, just to mess with the users. ;) :)

Alright, so what's your phone info... Guess we could try and find you a flash tool and a ROM, if such a thing even exists, heh.

EDIT: Ugh., have you posted it already, did I miss it? o.0
