Bought mint pixel 2 XL and one of the more useful features that I am missing on the Pixel is the clipboard functionality. This was something so useful coming from Samsung phones.

A phone such as the pixel line, advertised as the smartest smart phone doesn't have a simple clipboad functionality. What is good thinking. Seriously.

I know there are 3rd party apps out there, but I really should need to do that. Unacceptable from Google.

By Clipboard do you mean the ability to copy and paste? Yes it does. You just need to learn how to do it.

My Pixel 2 certainly has a clipboard! Press and hold on a word and it highlights text, and you can drag the end markers. Press and hold and choose paste.

Standard single-item copy/paste is included, this IS "simple clipboard functionality". If you want to have multi-item depth it's an add-on, just as on Windows or macOS. Just because an OEM included it on their version of Android does not make the Pixel any less "smart" because Google doesn't include it in the base-level OS.

Guys not taking about the ability to just copy and past one time. Taking about clipboad history.

I can copy multiple items through out the day and then open up clipboad and it will have the last 10 copies I did and I can past and of them.

Seems that this should be available on Gboard (see link below), but can't find it on mine. What am I missing. The article below clearly says it is available starting with 7.7. I am on 7.8.7

What I am gathering from researching this is that it was enabled and then few weeks after Google disabled this feather. some folks are not happy about this and that includes me. WTH? a simple clipboard manager that is available on many OEM phones, Google is having issues with. Top notch Google developers I guess.

So, find a clipboard manager. That's one of the great things about Android - if you don't like a function as it's designed, go find an app to replace that function to make it better.

Pixel (and Nexus) are the base, clean version of Android. Clipboard history is not considered as basic. You don't find that in other OS such Windows or Mac neither. None of the phone would be perfect for everyone. You often find features missing on all phones. So, just pick the one with the features you really want and be happy with it. No need to talk down to the phone.

Here is an example: I recently traveled outside the US and often have to turn on/off cell data several times a day. It turns out that my wife's S9 doesn't have mobile data on the shortcut menu. Sure I disappointed but lots of people can live without that. The point is just because you want something doesn't mean that is what others want.

Obviously Google had clipboard manager as part of gboard with 7.7 version and removed it weeks later. That is frustrating for folks who were using it and now it's gone.
This has nothing to do with stock Android. by they way, pixel phones are NOT stock Android. Anyone who's been around android OS for a while knows that.

I am not bashing the phone either. I like my pixel 2 xl. But when a company charges $800+ and $900+ for a "pixel" phone that supposed to be the smartest out there, a simple function like clipboard manager is to be expected. My 2 cents, not expecting anyone to agree here :)

As usual, if you don't like some 'thing' that Google has/hasn't done, your best bet is to send feedback directly to them.

The BlackBerry Keyboard has this feature (and is actually a pretty awesome software keyboard, imo). Unfortunately, it's not part of the BlackBerry Hub+ Suite, but there's a thread here that shows you how to get access to it through a third party app.

And although you stated that you weren't interested in a 3rd party application there are lots of them in the Google Play Store with good ratings - Clipboard Manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=devdnua.clipboard is one I used regularly back when I had a need for such a thing.
I bought Clipper+. Great app. They have a free version but this is an app that I purchased years back when clipboad was not available on Samung phones.
