No Gmail Notifications

[Android Central Question]

Got an Huawei android phone.
Sometimes I don't get any notification when receiving an email, sometimes it's delayed by 3 minutes, why is this ?

the Gmail app, not the stock one

Send an email to myself and it comes instantly however the notification comes 3 minutes later ?

Any power-saving modes turned on? Or is Restrict Background Data turned on for the Gmail app in the system settings?

Ive done loads of changing settings etc but no luck.. where do you find " restrict background data " ? thanks

That setting's location can vary depending on the phone. If the system settings have a search option, do a search for "background."

Tried that, all it lists is an option to change my background wallpaper

Which Huawei phone do you have?

Also, did you look for a battery optimization menu? If so, make sure Gmail isn't "Optimized."

and yes, gmail isn't optimized

Thanks dude but thats for the 2019 model, i have the 2018 - and the menus on there don't match mine

There is an app called Push Notification Fixer, is it safe to install and try ?

Seems like it's worth trying. The reviews that I looked at didn't mention any intrusive ads, and the app doesn't ask for any unnecessary permissions.

Did some reading and people are saying recently the app doesn't help. Wouldn't want to risk it because you have to grant it full permission over the phone and could be malicious, not worth it just so i get notifications faster.
I find usually the light flashes on the corner of my phone to indicate a notificatin however the sound and popup come minutes after. There are others with this problem on here and over reddit.
