No google wallet on the gnex - blocked by verizon

That's some brilliant doublespeak by verizon. Notice how they say "devices". They claim not to block Wallet from verizon "devices".

This means that for every phone EXCEPT the GN, it is not the blocking, but the lack of hardware keeping customers from using it. True, but not at all related to the recent press.

They conveniently leave out the fact that all the uproar is about a phone that DOES have the necessary hardware.

Obfuscate and confuse...

I'm happy google wallet won't be on GN. In fact, I'm leary of NFC in general. I see it as another step in a long slow march to a day when we all require a 'mark' to buy and sell goods. I'm not Amish, but there is some technology that I choose not to support.

It's better than rfid credit cards (which we'll all have soon enough).

At least with nfc, the radio only transmits briefly at the POS.

This isn't Verizon blocking the feature, so stop hating. There is a reason no other carrier but Sprint uses Google wallet. They have an exclusive deal with Google that bars other carriers from using the feature.

Verizon Galaxy Nexus cannot use Google Wallet, Sprint only | ZDNet

What the article doesn't tell you is Google has been trying to make deals with the other carriers too, but they were already committed to Isis because they have partial ownership of the company. Not going to happen IMO. You'll also have to pay per transaction to use Isis.

So is it accurate that once Wallet is installed on a phone with the proper hardware (like this Nexus), that we can use it??

Several editorial comments on the subject seem to indicate that this would be possible.

You'd probably have to root because the secure element in the phone is disabled. Verizon has egg all over it's face after Google spilled the beans and announced the Nexus has all the necessary hardware to run Wallet.
