What a slap in the face! Seriously Verizon Wireless is the worst effing carrier. They simply feel it mandatory to f everything up in some shape form or fashion. Why would Google even let Verizon be the launch partner on this phone? They gave them the US launch privileges of the newest Google Experience Device and they let VZW add bloat and disable GOOGLE WALLET? WTF? It just gets worse as every day goes by. seriously! It might be worth dropping a call every once and a while to get a carrier that is not so ridiculous and in love with themselves.

Rant Over.

and yes i know they have the best coverage... EVERYBODY knows they have they best coverage! They wont let you forget they have the best coverage! My bill shows me they have the best coverage every month! LOL

Google Wallet is not a real deal-breaker for me, honestly. I'm sure I'm not in the minority, but the whole idea of such payment methods is still in its infancy.

If and when there is some kind of standard adopted by the carriers (whether it's ISIS or GW), the Nexus will have NFC already incorporated, so I'm sure it will be a fairly painless implementation.

Root = Google Wallet - it's as easy as that :)

I have a question about rooting the GN. I understand updates will come directly from Google, rather than big red. So, one can assume that updates will come much more frequently than what we (big red users) are accustomed to. Will OTA updates break root? If so, is anyone concerned about the constant chore of re-rooting with more frequent OTA updates?

Wow...

OK...Verizon, ATT and T-Mobile are in a joint venture to use ISIS, not GW. GW is not the end all be all of NFC payments. So Verizon wants to utilize the tool that they are spending the money to build, why is this such a travesty? You think ATT and T-Mobile will do the same? Of course they will. And as a result it very well may mean that ISIS will be the big player in the game in the very near future.

Why is it that the android groupies are becoming the biggest bunch of illogical whiners in the tech world? It is starting to get old....

Really u posted this such old news and all ready posted. If gwallet was better then vzw att tmo would use it. Its not Isis is better and that's why carriers have decided to back it.?

Verizon wanting to preserve Isis may be the cause of this problem. But under no circumstances should it be considered an excuse for what they're doing. By law these phones are our property, and the carrier nor the manufacturer can dictate what we do with them. Apple lost that battle long ago when they tried to make jailbreaking illegal.

Claiming that there's "compatibility issues" is likely just to keep regulators off their backs.

you have no idea whether att and tmobile will allow GW or not. you do understand the term carrier right? they are the carrier of data and voice. let the user choose what data is carried over the network. so now that VZW has opened its big fat wallet all of its subscribers are forced to use a service that may or may not be better or worse. that is BS. sounds like some iffy corporate tactics to me.

i dont understand how apple can demand the world from a carrier and the carrier demands the world from google...why?

Thank you, someone with reason! well put.

i have a nexus s on t-mobile and you can't install google wallet on it if it's stock/unrooted so this isn't anything new. the only phone right now that supports google wallet stock unrooted is the nexus 4g on sprint so i think this is all being blown out of proportion.

Is it naive of me to think that, based on their "hardware" excuse, Verizon hasn't worked with Google Wallet enough to confirm security and generate support for all users, rendering it a service that they do not want to risk ruining customer experience over? I mean, if I was an average dude with Google Wallet and it let me screw myself over in a way I didn't expect, the first person I'd call would be Verizon, because "you sold me a phone that came with a program that caused me to lose a lot of money."

Sounds like pure CYA on Verizon's part to me. Even if ISIS didn't exist, they would probably still need some time to work on learning about Google Wallet internally before letting it be easily available to average users.

I could be way off base here since I'm a giant Android noob, but from the sound of it Verizon just isn't going to give root access to a program they don't know how to work and support (and possibly charge for). And personally, I can't fault them for that (unless they try to charge for it).

Yes an OTA will break root or worse you never want to accept an OTA while rooted. Being rooted the developers will be pushing their own updates faster then Google.

Verizon claims its not secure enough. While rooting is an option I'm not that keen on downloading a potentially hacked version of Google wallet.apk then putting my credit card numbers into it.

For me this isn't that big of a deal, I never used a cell phone to pay for things so I'm not losing something.

Travesty? Really? Travesty? I can think of a lot of things in life that could be considered a travesty... Firefly getting canceled... Adam Sandler being allowed to keep making movies... The Chicago Cubs..... but some feature on a phone? Man, that's fanboyism out of control.

I'm still not sold on any type of payment from my smartphone anyway. Until 100% of all busineses accept it, I'm still going to need to keep my credit card on me, so the last thing I need is two things to worry about losing. To me it's about as useful as that silly face unlock feature.

Now, if the GNext doesn't launch on Friday.. I will hop aboad any travesty post. :)

No its more about security, which stores support the pay method, what performs better. Currently gw doesn't meat those criteria
