This is supposed to be available for our phones now, right? I am still on 1.2 with no update available.

One question that I have is will SMS messages that goes through Hangouts 2.0 go through data (like GrooveIP/Talkatone)? Or will SMS messages go against the alloted number of texts?

It is still handled by sms so it will go against your count.

Are you running 2.0 on a Verizon GS4? I don't see the update.

Have (currently) Droid Razr Maxx and as of yesterday did not have Hangouts 2.0 (Probably don't today.)

I think by the time I get my Note 3 back from Samsung in the next coming days, I'll have Hangouts 2.0. I know this is the GS4 section, but figured since we were talking about Hangouts, figured I'd just ask my question. :)

Thanks.

Try to download the apk file. I got it from the note 3 section. Worked for me. I got a note 3 but I don't see why not the apk file wouldn't work for you also. Hope it helps.

Rockin my Note 3

My wife updated hangouts on her GS3 over the weekend and was updated to the 2.0 version. What gives?

Google does this with pretty much all of their updates, they "stagger" them or roll them out gradually, so not everyone will get the update at once. My guess is this is to prevent bandwidth overload on their servers as the updates are released. I manually installed the new Hangouts on one of my devices a few days ago, and it finally showed up on one of my other devices as a Play Store update just last night.

If you don't feel like waiting, there are places to get the official APK to install manually.
Here's the one Android Police put up a few days ago (there may be a more recent version? I'm not taking the time to investigate, but this one has worked fine for me):
[APK Download] Hangouts 2.0 With SMS Support Finally Hits The Play Store, Newer Version Should Fix Broken Video Chat

While you do have to edit your security settings to be able to manually install apps and there is always security concerns involved in doing so (which is why I only download apps like this from sources I trust), this isn't "hacking" or "rooting" or doing anything "illegal" to your device...it's actually a feature of Android that you can do this. I point this out because often folks will chastise others for posting solutions like this -- if you prefer to wait for the update, fine, but if you're really eager to get it, I'm just pointing out that you can take matters into your own hands if you'd like.

Droid Razr Maxx got the update.

I like it...video calls kind of suck though...wife has S3. But I do like how it organizes ALL of my SMS texts in one bucket (whether it's from my GV OR my main cell number.)

I await the day that Hangouts will tie into GV and make phone calls/SMS over data like GrooveIp/Talkatone. Then stuff will be sweet.

I ended up just using the apk posted above. Works great.

I have a question, I liked the way the default messenger app lit up the screen and I could see the notification icon on the s view is there a way to do this with hangouts?

Well I restarted my phone and now the icon shows in the s view. Still doesn't light up the screen tho.

I like it but I have to many apps that are tied in to my stock Messenger that won't work as wiggly with Hangouts ... Too bad I was really excited about this too
