Android Central Question

I searched and searched. There is nothing about this recent issue.

My Google Pixel XL 2 running the most recent up date 8.1.0 will not or cannot send texts to older iPhone s. I can send to all other Android users and friends and family with newer iPhones.

I tried all the standard solutions (other than contacting Verizon).

Ideas or sympathizers?

Did this just start happening?

@Ry. Sorry I didn't login to post. I restarted, emptied cache, disabled, forced stopped, factory rebooted. Couldn't uninstall because it is the factory app. I did not call Verizon.

I did text iPhone 7 users with no problem. Android uses no problem. seems to be iPhone 5 uses that will no longer send.

Did it work before?

Just in case you didn't realize it, iPhones don't do texting, they use iMessage, which is a totally different thing. Sending a text to an iPhone should convert it to an iMessage when it gets to the iPhone, but it's an apple thing, it has nothing to do with your phone or your carrier. (If Apple would play nice and allow the rest of the industry to use the iMessage protocol, the way they use everyone else's protocols, we wouldn't have been having this problem since the end of July, 2012. (Or with iChat, the protocol they used before iMessage.) But they never have played nicely. (Apple stole the graphic interface from Xerox PARC, then sued Microsoft for "stealing it from them for Windows.)

If the "older" iPhone is using iChat, there may be a problem, but send (or have the iPhone owner send) a message to your Pixel marked SMS, and that should get things working again. (And if they're running iChat, tell them to update to iMessage first, then send you an SMS.) At least iMessage remembers numbers it sends SMS messages to.

@Rukbat. So it worked without issue until now 3 days ago. I CAN receive messages from them, but I cannot initiate them. or if we have a dialogue going it works fine. I delete text conversations when they are done. I don't like clutter...
