No more hard buttons on phones?

Remove dedicated Home/Menu/Back/Search buttons?

I want to keep my dedicated buttons. However, maybe all we will need is Home, Back, and Recent apps. I like the idea of the context menu.

I have an Archos 43 Internet tablet and having the soft buttons causes problems with some applications. My understanding it depends on how the developers write it but some don't call for the available screen size and do the whole screen size. Then you get application buttons covered by the android soft buttons.

If the official google software says no buttons, I doubt apps will have a problem with it. Archos kind of hacked it on with no support.

Absolutely not for me. It's one reason I don't like iOS -- believe it or not, it's TOO simple for me. I love having the dedicated Menu/Back/Home buttons (and usually search). I understand Honeycomb may be eliminating the need for this on Tablets, but I don't see it being as effective on phones due to the smaller screen.

Exactly! I hate the iDevices because I can NEVER go back to the previous page without pushing the home button. I ALWAYS forget it will take you to the home screen. I want to get a menu and I push the home button on accident and there I am with a headache. I like the 4 buttons because I don't ever have to be confused on how to go back or get a menu. The one button thing confuses me.

I hardly EVER use the search button. I actually have never used it. I am going to now............... okay 1 time in my life now :P . I really only use the home, back, and menu button.

I love the buttons on my Hero. Always using the back button. I can answer calls with my gloves on: try doing that on an iPhone. Keep them please.

Like most things it's personal, but I do like the buttons on my Desire.

If there's a bit of lag or a hang, it's nice to know "yes, the button has been pressed" instead of "Hmm, did that touch register?".

It has also made the noobs I help more comfortable to have a physical button to press.

love my camera, volume rocker, and power button! Can live without the rest, but a few for recovery boots are gold:)

title vs poll was very misleading when you said no more hard buttons on phone i though you mean only using capacitve touch buttons which i am for but i do not ever want a device without a home/back/and menu key the search button i dont care bout.

so i change my vote form no to yes! im for these buttons but i like them in capacitive form not physical
