No Nexus 5 for Verizon

only ones with the droid maxx. very happy with it glad didn't wait for this one. galaxy nexus user here and all I care about is battery now. got sold on nexus as my first phone because it was supposed to get updates early, and it didn't. i learned a lot roming and rooting that phone and learned that the best is to have a phone that just works, has a huge battery, and basic one click root for things like ad blocking and unlimited data tethering. yea i had like 4 batteries for the gnex and extended batts, that's not for me. the roming just became a time suck and having to re-set everything up cause everyone wants you to wipe wipe wipe, and then trouble shooting bugs is so annoying cause the roms and kernels are alpha level.

anyway, it was fun as hell, and good luck to you guys with the nexus 5, but i'm just very very very happy with my battery life, nice big screen without software buttons, nice battery i never think about, and pure stock google experience. only available on verizon (glad i got to use the upgrade AND keep unlimited data, and glad i got unlimited data without being grandfathered into it, gnex was my first, non-corporate smartphone.)
In case you didn't already know. But, guess which CDMA carrier will have a Nexus 5. Sprint. You mad bro?
I'm about ready to sell my unlimited data plan and say farewell. What was the last flagship worth buying VZW had? S4, then the HTC One they released 6 months late with HTCdev blocked, and that's about it for 2013.

Boo hooo hoooo. I remember when the original Nexus was introduced. People whinning and crying on Veirzon's Facebook page, threatening to leave and go here or there. Once it was released, all people did was complain about it.

In my opinion, there are no stand out phones anymore. They're all the same, just gimmicks here and there that set them apart from the others.

I agree with your last statement. But look at android as a whole, the market moves so fast in the android world all manufacturers can do is sell gimmicks in a market where every phone has at least 1GB of RAM and a dual core processor. That's why Samsung with the most gimmicks gets the most money they differentiate and put you in the Samsung experience.

What phone do you have now? I live my GN but hate carrying around 2extra batteries. I really want the 5, but Verizon has the best coverage in my area.

Sound like you need a Droid Maxx.

If yoy got the money, I'd say get the Moto X dev edition. Closest thing to a Nexus you'll see on VZW.

I have the S4, but with the current updates, there's little to no chance of the bootloader getting unlocked. The only custom ROMs have to use the stock kernel.

No matter how they do it. It will never work

I think that the HTC One was an exception, my guess was that they didn't want it to cannibalize the Droid DNA sales. The other phones maybe came a month later, plus minus, but I don't remember any current phone having a 6 month-ish delay.

Imo for how much a month I was paying vzw I would want the best phones when other carriers had them also

It really depends on your needs. Verizon can be cheaper than T-Mobile. But price and phone aren't the only parameters, at least for me. Though I understand that everyone has different wants and needs, and if another carrier suits your needs better, then by all means, switch
