No nook colors for 2 weeks!?!?

If this is to do a "circumvention-prevention" pass on their stock, it's likely not going to be a hardware change.

Also, this could be just a way to ensure the currently manufactured crop of Nooks have at least v1.1.0 or some later version.

Regardless of how much they lock it down, if they have an entry point, we have an entry point.

Seems like a dumb question but I'll ask it anyway: There wouldn't be any way for them to do anything to disable root or prevent people from rooting if you already have the NC, right?

By the way, I live in Toms River and there are 5 Walmarts between me and you. Toms River, Brick, Howell, Freehold and Neptune all have Walmarts that are well within 20 minutes of Port Monmouth.

idk what kind of car you are driving, but there is no way anybody can get from port monmouth to any of those places in less than a half hour. your car must be overclocked and rooted... jk

I got one at best buy yesterday. They had 6. B&N had some as well but Best buy offered free case.
BB had a little sign up that apologized they would not have any nooks due to stock issues, but since there were 6 looking at me, I grabbed one and a case and just checked out like normal.

Houston, TX area

similar thing happened to me on Tuesday in a Best Buy in Sugar Land (suburb of Houston)...i first checked online to make sure they had stock, and they did (as well as a bunch of other BBs in the area)...but when i got to the store , there was a sign in the Nook section stating that due to "stock issues outside of their control", they would not be selling NCs between Dec 30 and Feb 5 ?!?!?

so i asked a CSR what was up, and he took the sign down and said they actually had a bunch...said the sign was intended for some "other" stores....lol!!

so got the NC and a free case :)

From someone who works at B&N:

Feb 02 21:09:53 <cabbie> theres an error in the system for when nooks are received that are wrong. we just did a company wide re-count of the devices so we get a fresh on-hand picture. in the meantime, shipments of NCs are suspended till it gets figured out.

Nook Color now or XOOM Later?

Guys, I need your help. With the news of the Nook Color being pulled from shelves shortly, I am scared that they may try to lock down the bootloader ala Motostyle. IF they do that, the hackability will be limited in that there will be no Cyanogen Mod for tablets bought after said "fix". :(

I really want the Nook Color, but can't justify spending on both it and the XOOM tablet at the same time. So I was going to buy the XOOM first, and then get the Nook Color later on in the early summer.

Now, with B&N doing this, I don't know what to do. What do you guys think? Should I get the Nook now, wait for XOOM later (several months after release date), or take my chances that the lock down won't be as bad as I think?

Please help!!:'(

I don't want one but they have them in two stores buy me on the NJ / PA border.....about an hr and half drive from momouth, nj

I can see about picking one up if anyone wants it...I can get a gift receipt, etc. They say there are few at the BB's buy me.

I went by my local B&N during lunch to see what their stock looked like and they currently have 4 on hand. The manager knew right off how many because they "just had to do a manual count for corporate". I asked about them getting sent back to corporate and she didn't had not heard anything about that. Her orders were just to count them and report back how many they have on hand.

lol I did the same thing!

I just bought one last weekend so I wanted to know what was going on before the 14 day free return passed up. I spoke with a rep who then got the store manager. I asked them about the Nooks being pulled from the shelves. Both of their eyebrows shot up. They actually didn't believe me so we looked up the online news about this happening in other stores. They checked their communication from B&N home office, and they couldn't see anything informing them to pull their stock of NC. They made the comment that perhaps it was a stocking issue in certain parts of the country, but as for their store there was nothing going on.

While I was there people were walking out of the store with them. Perhaps everyone has jumped on the ass-u-me ship on this one...or at least I hope they have.

Has anyone tried pinpointing the areas where the NC are being pulled? I wonder if it is geographical? If it helps, in Idaho...there are plenty.

Although I do find it hard to believe that B&N can really DO anything about people rooting the NC, the timing does seem a little strange. The NC is getting buzz (pun slightly intended) about running honeycomb and then this?? Im not sure what B&N can/will do, but Im glad that I have my nook right now just in case!

Best idea, from a business standpoint would be to release an optional update that just rooted your nook but disabled any other ebook buying applications (i.e. kindle). That way we can all be happy and B&N can still make $$$ from selling ebooks.

I bought one yesterday at the nearest B&N and there were two other purchasers in line. Maybe there is now a run on them before it's too late.

could be that it's valentine's day coming up.
I saw a lot of older women buying them last week at my local bn......unless those 60 yr olds know how to root....

I diff think this is due to the recent usb problems, the chargers are kinda bent and not pushing into the port. also checked the B&N web site, in the accessories, replacment usb and chargers are also pulled off the market. why pull the best product B&N has ever had off the market, all that manpower an shipping cost make no sense unless its an defect issue, if it is rooting that is the issue and you wanted to stop it with a newer model, why not just let the stores sell there stock and replace it with the new so called unrootable model. my 2 cents

i live in new jersey lol. and the reason im worried im not gonna be able to find one in bb or b&n is because the article says the remaining nooks were pulled from the shelves in B&N and its nook distributors for "inventory checking". it wouldnt surprise me if this has something to do with all the rooting/hacking going on with the nook lately

I just checked with the Clifton (NJ) B&N. They still had a handful and they were still selling them. The one in Totowa was out of them. I bought mine in Totowa on Saturday.

I just bought one from my local B&N 30 minutes ago (Charlotte, NC). No issues. They had more stock as well.

I was also in Books-a-Million tonight and they had them too.
