Until the latest update I would get notifications when I turn my phone on. Now, when I turn the phone on I get nothing until I unlock it. Then all notifications come at once. While my phone is on I get everything. I just dont get anything at startup until I unlock the phone. Am I missing something? I checked every setting and nothing seems to work. I would always turn my phone on and go do my morning stuff and I could always hear notifications for text, email, etc. And like I said, I get nothing now until I come back and unlock the phone. Please help. Im going nuts lol

In order for someone to try and provide some assistance, some basic info such as phone make and model and Android version would be needed. Also, info on the "latest update" that changed things for you. Was it a Google system update? Or some other update?

Welcome to Android Central forums. We have just a few questions first.

What phone do you have?

Do you know what kind of update it was that your device received? System, security, other...

Anyway, even without the answers to these questions I can tell you what is going on. This is happening as a security slash privacy thing. Think about it, anyone turning on your device would have access to all of your notifications without needing to unlock your device. So just anyone, off the street if they have permission or not to access your device could get all of this personal information just be powering off and on your device. This prevents that action to protect you and your privacy and was a very deliberate action added to your device. I very much doubt you will find a solution to take you back to the way things were, that may depend on your device brand and model, but it is for your privacy and security.

Sorry. I have a samsung galaxy s22 ultra. Android 14. Latest update was system update 35. Which says a software update with most up to date android security patches

It's possible that the system update may have changed your settings. Info for setting lock screen notifications for your device may be found HERE.

I've been reading replies form other members, just to be clear, you are talking about the phone alerting from a powered off state to a powered on state, and not a, I've left my phone on the nightstand for 5 or 6 hours just turning on the screen state, correct?

My reply is to the former. Powering on the device from a powered off state, to which I stand by my reply. As for the latter, leaving the device sit for extended periods without interaction, I cannot speak to that but it appears other members have some insight.

Yes. Turning phone off at night then back on in the morning.

Yes when the device reboots and you don't open to the home screen you won't get any notifications it even says that after a reboot Thanks
Since day one I had this phone I would ALWAYS get notifications after turning it on and before unlocking the screen. Since the latest update I dont get anything.

I'm a bit surprised that this hasn't always been the case with this device. I honestly don't remember its behavior when I had the S22 or remember when I began noticing that it didn't fully boot up until after unlocking it for the first time but I know this is a thing and it is for the reasons I've outlined, to protect your privacy after a restart to ensure the owner is in control of the device. Whatever the contention is with this behavior you can see what Samsung had to say about this in this Samsung Community thread where someone asked this question. If you jump to the solution they say there is a way to work around this but it also says that it removes most security from the device.

Best wishes.

Not a reboot. After I turn it on after it being off for the night.
Thanks for clarifying, do u have where it auto restart? Leaving for long periods it probably goes into doze mode Samsung devices are known for that to preserve battery life and also you should be prompt to enter password or in instead of biometric.

No. I literally turn the phone off. In the morning I turn it back on. Walk away. Before this latest update I would always get notifications. Now I don't until I come back and literally unlock the phone, then my phone blows up with notifications.

If you turn off the phone then it's the same as rebooting and you won't get notifications until you unlock it , this been on Samsung phones at least 2 years , when the phones turns on after being completely shut off it will display that message.
