Hello,

I installed MobileVoip and Viber in my HTC One X.

When I call a number from:
- default dialer,
- the contact list
- or Dialer widget

I don't get the option menu "Complete action using" to select Dialer, MobileVoip or Viber. Look at the attached screen-shot (from my previous Galaxy Note). To use MobileVoip or Viber, I have to dial the number in those apps.

I already checked the details of the 3 apps (with a phone icon) in SETTING > APPS > ALL APPS tab. And none has default action, the button "RESET DEFAULT ACTIONS" is deactivated (non click-able).

This menu "Complete action using" appears for other type of action, like opening a .LOG file or a .PDF file.

The missing menu "Complete action using" when dialing:
- Is that a One X bug?
- Do you experiment the same problem?
- If yes, did you find a solution (which one)?

Thanks and regards.

Have you tried changing the app association? It is just between Storage and Apps under settings. There is an option to choose which app to use for phone numbers. I don't have those apps installed so I can't test it, but it is just a thought.

Well, blame it on Apple!! That is the feature HTC had to remove because courts found it to be a voilation of apple patent !!:(

Not sure what do you mean for "app association". I guess it's the default app setting in the app's detail of an app listed there: SETTING > APPS > ALL APPS tab.
Yes I checked the default action, and there is none default action for: DIALER, PHONE, MobileVoip, Viber.

More screen-shots of my HTC1X to illustrate my problem.

- The menu "Complete action using" appear when I open a .PDF file.
- 3 apps (with a phone icon) found in the list SETTING > APPS > ALL APPS tab.
- The detail page of one of those 3 apps showing the "Default action" part.

Thanks and regards.

Settings > App Associations

That will allow you to change the app that open when you click on a phone number, email, etc.

Yes, Settings > App Associations will do that. But you still dont have a choice at the time you press the link. I like to have the choice especially when I am trying out software. Sometimes I will use the default app to just get something done and other times use the test app. I do this wiht new browsers, new dialers and other things.

Oh well

HTC removed the popup because of the infamous lawsuit...

Interesting. I work in telecom and one of the things I liked about Android was having this option. You could use a SIP softphone or regular mobile to dial out. The iPhone never allowed me to do something like this. And now because of this lawsuit, it's gone? They weren't even using that functionality in iOS! Sigh...

Is this an Android thing or an HTC thing? Meaning, will all updates to the Android OS regardless of handset manufacturer eliminate this option in the future? Anyone here know?

You can still change the default dialer app, but it's the default, not just a one time selection.

Looks to be just an HTC thing, for now.

True. It just irks me a little. I mean, I'm a huge Apple fan but I liked this feature on Android (not that I ever used it) and one feature I thought Apple should have in iOS.

I found how to get this dialing option menu from the call history (only).
Long press a call item and you get a menu, In this menu select "Edit number before calling" then you get the dialing option menu.
Look at the attached 2 screen-shot.

I am having this same issue and it began when I upgraded my Note 2 to JB 4.3.

Unfortunately, I do not see an 'edit your number' when I long press an entry under call history.

You can get a app called call log+
In that you can tap and hold the log and it gives you option edit before call. It shows you the number and when you call it gives you two options default dialer and viber.
But it still didn't work for me as I wanted Skype to make calls.
Then I got the app called dialer+ and it worked. That dialer asks me to choose app before calling.
But p.s. it shows only Skype and default dialer.
So the previous one would be useful for you.
