No pop-up notifications on SGS7

Hi there, so my (brand new and updated) Samsung Galaxy S7 is not showing notifications from any app other than Facebook & text messages. I am talking about the notifications that pop-up at the top of the screen. WhatsApp, Outlook, Instagram and so on.. whenever I get a notification from those apps, all my phone does is show the icon in the icon tray but that's it. So I easily overlook any new messages.

My notification settings in WhatsApp are as followed:
Pop-up notification: no pop-up <since this is about the pop-up right in the middle of your screen, which is very annoying so I don't want those)

In Settings > Notifications I have turned on all notification for all apps.
In Advanced notifications > WhatsApp, I have allowed notifications, 'hide content' on lock screen, and I have set the notifications to priority but this is not necessary, only did this to force WhatsApp to show me notifications :)

In Outlook, I have turned on all notifications for all incoming e-mail.

So all notifications do show on lock screen, and in the notifications tray & icon bar at the top, but when I'm using my phone, I don't get the pop-up at the top of the screen.

Hope someone can help me out!

Welcome to the forums as new member! That means you have popups turned off, as you indicated in the second para. I have not dealt with WhatsApp, but turning popups off for it may have affected all notifications. Regardless, if everything else is working as you say, you have popups turned off somewhere.

Thanks! And thanks for your quick reply.

"Notification Pop-Ups: Show when screen is on & off (LED light)" are both on.

When I turn on WhatsApp's pop-up notifications, all I get is the pop-up right in the middle of the screen from which you can quick reply to any messages. Those are not the notifications I want, I just want the tiny pop-up at the top that disappears after a few seconds.

Yeah, that's the same I was referring to, but looks like you have it covered. This the worse thing IMO about Nougat, there are just too many blasted settings that need to be dinked around with for notifications. You might go thru the battery optimization settings for each app and make sure they're also set for notifications. That was a major cause for Gmail.

Could you tell me how to do that?

Go to Settings, Battery, battery usage, 3 dots, optimize. Make sure any app you want notifications from is turned OFF here, kinda opposite of what you would think. Look around at all the Battery stuff, there's lots there. Also, please quote part of my message or give me a mention by using @ and my username as one word. That will ping my dropdown menu and make sure I get back to the thread. I go thru quite a few and lose track sometimes :)

I turned WhatsApp and Outlook off but still no popups :(

did you reboot the phone? Forgot that.

After reboot, still nothing. But I reset the notification settings in WhatsApp and now it works somehow, even though the settings are literally all the same (in WhatsApp at least, but maybe not somewhere deep down in Nougat).

For future readers with a similar problem: in WhatsApp, go to settings > notifications > click the three dots and reset notifications settings.

Thanks PJRed2008!!
