No prompt for connection type

I got the GB update this morning and now I tried to connect the phone to my computer via USB and it won't prompt me for what type of connection to make. I have the setting to default to Charge Only, but to also ask every time. When I plug in the USB, it starts to charge but doesn't ask. And I can't find where to pull up that screen manually. Nothing shows up in the notification bar. Also I changed the default action to Disk Drive and when I plug in the USB, it doesn't do anything. Doesn't charge nor does my computer recognize a connection. Anyone experience this? Any ideas how to get this working again?

Don't have the gb ota update yet, but you should still be able to access that setting under
Menu> settings> connect to pc

Thanks for the reply. When I go there the only options it gives me are "Default connection type" and "Ask Me". I have "Ask Me" checked and the default type sent to "Charge Only". But there's no way to bring up the prompt to actually change the current connection type. The only way I was able to bring that up before was in the notification bar. There used to be the USB symbol there whenever the phone was connected. Now that symbol isn't there and nothing available when I bring down the notification panel. However the phone is charging.

If you tap on Default connection type, a box will pop up with all your choices in it....hope this helps....

Tap the default type and change it to disk drive and see what happens when you reconnect.
Tried that. Nothing happens at all. When I plug in, it doesn't even start charging. And before the update, as soon as I plugged in, no matter the connection type, my computer would recognize it and add it as a drive. However now, the computer doesn't even recognize it.

Yes, the choices do pop up, but that only serves to change the default type when I plug in. However it doesn't change the type of the current connection. And unfortunately having the default set to Disk Drive doesn't do anything.

ok my last thought is that your usb cable may be damaged or not fully engaged. try another usb slot, another micro cable, or worst case scenario . . . wifi transfer or actually remove your micro sd card and insert with adapter into pc.

Wait, have you disconnected the phone from usb first? Disconnect and then reconnect. Sorry if you have already done that, but it was unclear from the text.above.

Yes. I disconnected the USB, changed the default type, and plugged back in. Nothing changes. No prompt, no notification.

RESOLVED!!!

I tried connecting the phone to another computer and it worked as normal. So I restarted my primary computer where the problem was happening and now it's normal there too. I guess the computer needs to recognize a device was added before the phone will prompt. I just assumed it would prompt when it is plugged in. Thanks repligator & idm726 for your assistance.

Any chance you changed the autoinsert notification setting on your pc?

Otherwise must be a bad cable or slot. You are not rooted are you?

Also, have you tried rebooting both phone and pc?

Edit: should have suggested the reboot first.

I haven't changed anything on my pc. At least not knowingly. I think it's been over a day since the pc had been rebooted and I did have a program hang earlier that I killed via Task Manager. That may have did something wonky. But I didn't reboot at the time.

Prior to rebooting the pc, I did reboot the phone and obviously that didn't do anything. Hopefully it was just a Windows glitch that was resolved with the reboot and not a hardware issue. Everything seems to be working as normal now. So I'm going to assume that was the case.

And no, I have not rooted...Not yet, at least.

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem - I was reading the replies hoping that there would be some help. In my case I have tried it on two different laptops with no success. One clue may be that I recently updated the Java on both my laptops; I wonder whether that could cause this problem. I hope I can get some resolution to this problem.
Thanks

Hi all, I've also encountered this problem - In my case it was the "Toggle fast charge" app that caused the problem. I guess that if you turn this kind of app on (actually it is only a widget), it indicates to your phone that you're interested in charging now and disables the usb prompt pop-up. Hope it'll help someone, someday.

Ahhh I get it it had to reboot to recognise the new driver set its like if your IP gets switched you gotta reboot to get the new IP so I guess that makes since and you didn't try a differ ant usb port??
