Just got my Bolt and for whatever reason I am not getting push emails on my gmail account.

My yahoo mail account is working fine though.

Any ideas?

I didnt see in options anywhere to select "push data" like i had on my Droid X

If you are using the default Gmail mail app it defaults to push. If you setvup another email client that is different

If you use HTC Mail app, then setup Google Mail as EXCHANGE. Check the instructions on Google website.

Keep in mind that push mail uses lots of battery though.

Yea mine automatically started pushing emails through gmail not htc mail. Which brings me to my question (instead of making another thread)

Which do you recommend? Htc mail app and set up gmail through it? Or use gmail app?

Android phones provision the gmail app when you get set up. I have left the gmail calendar and contacts to sync there, but turned off email. Personally I don't like the gmail app and want a combined inbox for all my email accounts. I use Maildroid after testing K-9 and testing the htc email client. For me gmail is a secondary account so this works. The gmail app is faster and push email, and it is hard to beat its performance and support for gmail specific features. So, if it is your primary email account you might want to keep it.

There are ways to forward email to gmail and have it push to you (A quick search will find this) but i did not want to push my company emails through gmail

There is no push gmail with the HTC app. It is pull only (unless what the poster above said about exchange changes that.)

Use the gmail app if you want push gmail. Have your gamil account push your other accounts like hotmail for you. Push uses less battery, not more BTW.

Again fairly new here but that is my understanding this far.

Thanks.

Use can use push mail with the HTC Mail program. Just select EXCHANGE when you add your Google Mail account.

The upside is that this also allows you to SYNC your Google CALENDAR at the same time and you can get meeting invite.
