everyone and a while my phone isn't sleeping. Im not sure what it is.

I downloaded the latest facebook update and oovoo at the same time. Not sure which one is doing it.

has anyone experienced this with just one of that apps mentioned?

I don't use ooVoo, but that's where I would start looking. Never had that issue and I use facebook all the time. I would also check in settings> applications> development, and make sure that "stay awake" is not checked. Hope that helps.

Did you happen to open chat in Facebook? If so, you need to go back to chat and open the menu and go offline. Facebook will not sign you out of chat if you simply back out.

Ok. Just wondering about this as I've seen posts about the epic not sleeping before. What does it do when it doesn't go to sleep? Does the screen just stay on or is it something else. I'd just like to know as I'm curious... thanks.

It is definitely Facebook chat. The second you receive a message, the phone will not sleep. I tested this with Spare Parts. Go into Facebook chat and go offline, the phone will sleep properly again.

The issue is when something keeps the processor from going into its sleep state so while its not chugging on something at 100% usage it is not going into its proper low power idle state and this will typically cause me 5-6% drain per hour on wifi (compared to less than 1% when working properly) and depending on signal 9-11% battery drain per hour on 3G.

You can check how much the processor is sleeping with an app like Spare Parts or Battery History. If you open up the battery history and check the "other usage" category you will see stats like "Running" and "Screen On"

Running is how much time your phone spent in a non-sleep state while screen on is typically how much time you spent actually using the device. For me it is normal to have the running state to be about 15% higher than the screen on time with the custom ROM I'm using (Nebula) where it was closer to 20% with stock DI18 and and DK28 was 20% for a few days until it decided to always stay about 70%.

I never figured out exactly what it was but DI18 loved to bug out all the time and keep the processor from sleeping at all. I think it had something to do with charging it because I would often be able to see if it was going to do it as soon as I took it off the charger. Normally a quick reboot would fix the problem but I did have days where it took several attempts to get it working normally.

Lots of things can effect how much time it spends sleeping like what process are running in the background and such. It seems like every time a app wants to poll for data it takes it out of the sleep state and hence when I have noticed being on a really slow 3G network or having poor signal the non-sleep time will go up just due to how long it takes an app to get its data, combined with higher radio powers needed to communicate in poor signal conditions i have seen as much as 50% more battery drain at 1-2 bars of signal compared to 5 bars.

I hope this answered your questions. :)
