I'm at my wits end on this perplexing problem. I can't get my S5 (lollipop AT&T) to emit sound for alarms, ringtones, music app, key strokes, absolutely nothing. The audio jack is operational, and I can make calls (so the ear piece and microphone is working).

I've done/checked the following:
- settings (sounds & notifications, ringtone volume, mute)
- safe mode start up
- pulling sim card
- factory reset
- cleared cache in recovery
- test menu speaker (did nothing)
- replace external speaker
- replace entire midframe assembly
- replace usb charging port flex cable

I don't what else to check. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! By midframe assembly, do you mean the motherboard?

It is not the rear cover. It is the rear white plastic frame with silver trim. It houses the external speaker, power & volume button, audio jack & camera lens cover. Just google midframe s5 and pictures will appear. The middle plate attaches to the midframe and the lcd display assembly attaches to the top side of the midframe.

I also tried replacing the middle plate with a new usb charger port flex cable.

Man, you've tried a lot already! I realize that this won't be of much help, but I would suspect something on the motherboard at this point.
