No sound notifications when emails arrive

I have a Galaxy J6 and have recently been having problems when emails arrive, as I no longer get any sound notification. I have checked that the notifications are turned on but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I've even changed the ringtone in case there was a problem - no change. I get notifications for messages and the phone ringtone is working fine - it's only on email. I'm stumped now.

One concern is that when my husband turns his mobile on (same J6 model) my phone is telling me that I have an email, but there isn't one there. That's the only time I get a notification.
