No sound on Chromecast w/Google TV

Hi, out of the blue, our Chromecast went mute. If I go into settings > system > restart, the sound will come back for a while, but shortly after it'll go mute again and I'll have to restart again.
Any ideas?

I have found that sometimes I have to force close the app I'm playing in order to get the audio going again

When you say that you restart again, are you rebooting the Chromecast, or are you only disconnecting some other device that you're casting with and then reconnecting?

If I go into AppleTV+, for instance, I get hi volume. I then have to force close the Apple TV+ app to get volume working again.
