Anyone know how to correct this?

While texting someone, if I don't close the text messaging app, my dinc won't alert me of a new message from the person I am having a text conversation with. Is this a bug? Is there a setting somewhere?
Thanks,
Jon

mine does this as well and i think its by design. I guess it assumes since you have the window open already, you dont need to be alerted again? I just make sure to back out every time, i dont think there is a setting to change it.

Huh, I actually like this thing. It's nice not to have to constantly get notifications if I'm having a rapid-fire text conversation with someone.

Yeah, I agree...it is good for times when I am just sitting there texting.
Just wish there was a setting to change for when I am in the middle of doing other things. Not a real big deal, I too try to remember to back out, but forget sometimes. And, realize later that I missed a text. Just trying to eliminate steps/button pushing. Maybe in honeycomb they will change this or give options. If honeycomb comes to the dinc, that is.
Thanks,
Jon

Maybe someone can/has made a rom that can address this.

I think you are on to something. Maybe the phone thinks you are looking at it (since it is open) and can see the message come in. I actually think it's kind of thoughtful...

What I do is hit the home button really fast then the power button to make the screen go to sleep. That way if I'm busy doing with some thing I can still get a notification sound in my pocket.

try downloading the app sound manager, i did that when my texts didn't vibrate and now the notifications works while the conversation is open

Some thing like a sms reminder might work, but it would just REMIND you to answer or acknowledge the text message. Which would then lead to a delayed response but should give a desired effect/result none the least.

Both of my phones has acted the same way, definitely by design. I just exit out of the conversation real quick so I get the notification. Wish there was an option for this.

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about as I have experienced it myself.
Try using handcent. I've known about the app for a long time but I was one of those users who just wanted to keep everything as "stock" as possible. The thing that irritated me the most about the "stock" text app is that when you get a call it'll vibrate and the person on the other side of the call ALWAYS asks what it is and it was just plain out annoying.

I've been using Handcent for 2 weeks now and LOVE It. I can turn off alerting while on a call so it doesn't disturb me. it has built in sms popup for those who want/like that type of feature (can also be disabled) and you can also set it to only display contacts with mobile numbers (instead of displaying all their info like email/home phone, etc....)

Give it a shot. the worst that can happen is you'll hate the app and want to uninstall it. if you like it, then GREAT!
