My phone is a Samsung Galaxy J7 Refine (Virgin Mobile -- now Boost). This make and model is notorious for having no signal, roaming, calls going straight to voicemail. Believe it or not, this isn't the problem I'm having at this time!
If I'm using my phone, it will NOT alert me of text messages (default messaging app). Basically if I have any app open on screen, I will not be notified. This means no text sound, no alert in the drop down, nothing. It's gotten to the point that I get suspicious after an hour or two, thinking it strange that no one has texted me. I'll swap over to my texts and have multiple unread messages.
This started a few months ago. My phone has the most recent system update. I've done a factory reset previously, and the problem persisted. I just did another last night for other lag/issues and this specific problem still continues. I have text alert reminders turned on - and they work, but only if I'm not using my phone. Otherwise, they are ineffective as well if any other app is open on screen (cute, right?).
At this point, I'm not sure if this is just something I'll have to accept with my paper weight of a phone, or if I should try out a different messaging app.
Any ideas or suggestions, or messaging app recommendations are welcome! Thank you.
