no text notifications

My phone longer notifies me when I receive a text. I haven't changed anything on it. How would I fix it?

Have you already checked the Messaging app's settings? Open Messaging, tap Menu>Settings, and look at the notification options. Also, go to Settings>Apps>All​, select Messaging, and make sure "Show Notifications" is checked on.

Yes I've done all that. I still get no notifications when I receive a text.

Ok, and this isn't just when you have the Messaging app opened up to that particular conversation, right? I ask because that's a relatively common complaint here.
