That's really weird. Probably after Jan 15 it would have been downloaded off of the cellular network. I hope this isn't something new they are doing, it could be, maybe to reduce data usage. If it is, they need to stop the crap, and let me download updates over cellular. Maybe it'll be a setting in the next update we can toggle.

Yeah I hope they allow over cellular again soon. I have unlimited but even if I didn't .. I would like to use my data plan however I see fit.

From what I recall seeing, Google frequently limits updates to WiFi during the initial phase of the rollout (about two weeks), and after that they allow downloads over data connections.

For what it is worth, I'm almost always on WiFi and still haven't seen the January security update.

I got the security update yesterday afternoon. I was on wifi's . I wasn't expecting it over OTA til the 15th .
Arrived early

I'm going to assume they just use the same download method for all updates whether it's big or small so just to make it easy, WiFi use to download.
