No Verizon branding on the Galaxy Nexus?

I think it's hilarious. All these people hating Verizon, but I'm sure they'll be all too happy when they're using the phone on Verizon's LTE network and experience the data speeds. (Seriously. I was getting 28 Mbps down / 15 Mbps up at work the other day on LTE. That's probably faster than the wifi in the building.)

And the two apps installed are no big deal. My Verizon is actually useful, as is backup assistant.

Pure Android is the point.

Which it still is, even with two verizon apps on board and a verizon logo on the back. ;)

I find pure Android to be a very narrow definition of Nexus. Nexus gets touted and positioned as pure Google which encompasses untouched Android. While there are tons of benefits of having pure Android that are unaffected by a few installed apps, it just doesn't line up with a device that is touted as pure Google.

I don't hate Verizon (I hate Sprint actually). As for the apps, I also think Sprint did it right. No Sprint apps are installed by default, but you can add them as you see fit. Verizon could do the same.

That's your opinion, and it is wrong.

We clearly disagree, and have our own opinions on this. I don't see the need to say that you're wrong just because we don't agree.

This is Google's definition of what a Nexus device should be:

As part of the Nexus brand, Nexus delivers what we call a “pure Google” experience: unlocked, unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services and the latest and greatest Android releases and updates.

People got it in their head that Nexus=no preinstalled apps or carrier branding, but that isn't what it means.

That quote certainly doesn't hurt your argument.

It's safe to say that all the press coverage on the Verizon bloatware apps means that regardless of Google's intended definition, they lost control of how "pure Google" and the Nexus line came to be defined. I'm actually not surprised by this since it has been hard to find a really good definition of what pure Google is.

It reminds me of Steve Jobs and antennagate. Bad reception? You're holding it wrong. Mad about bloatware? You're defining Nexus wrong.

Definitely. Of course, Verizon and Google's silence on the matter is the reason why its been blown out of proportion.

That, and people got used to a nexus that wasn't sold by a carrier. This is a whole different world, and Google hasn't done a good enough job explaining how its going to work.

True story. Verizon couldnt just let us have this one.

Ill be first in line to order a Gsm battery door if they fit properly

I think you're going to be stuck because the VZW CDMA/LTE version is thicker than the GSM version because of the LTE radio and bigger battery. You might have to find a third party replacement. I don't see what all this angst is toward VZW with the branding on the phone or the complete uproar to the two pieces of VZW software. I think they want Backup Assistant because it's free and they promote highly as a way to easily backup your phone to the cloud (I was sorry that WebOS didn't have it when I moved from my dumb phone to a Palm Pixi). Also, my Verizon is being pushed to customers to make sure they can monitor their data and minutes. Now, if we also had to put up with VZ Navigator, My City ID, etc. then I could see the big uproar. Get a life, there a lots more important things to worry about.

Nothing some acetone and a q-tip can't fix. Just make sure the cover is off the phone when you're doing it.

that'll probably melt the plastic. someone told me try this when I got super glue on my DS, and now my ds looks like crap.

Ugh. Really???

That sounds like an unworkable solution. That means if I swapped batteries my Google Wallet would have a different chip/identity to contend with. Also, it would jack up the cost of new batteries by at least $20.

Are you sure it's not the battery door like previous implementations?

don't you think that maybe your google wallet account is based on your account? And not 1chip in 1 battery? Seems like google would have thought of something so simple.

I would think it would be a major security threat for the info to be stored in the battery

I probably need to look into it more, especially the specific NFC hardware implementation in the GN. Even if it doesn't affect the wallet function, putting an element like that in a battery will make our batteries more expensive.

It's common knowledge that the creds are stored in the "secure element", but I am not clear on what other device hardware might be getting used for NFC security functions.

An opinion can not be "wrong" an opinion is just that an opinion he is as entitled to it as you are to yours.
Well, opinions can be wrong. No endorsement in this argument, but opinions are wrong all the time.

Because the Verizon Nexus is supposed to be a different color and size compared to the GSM Nexus, I doubt there is any chance that a GSM battery door would fit and if it did it would look bad because of the difference in color scheme. Not a huge deal, people should be happy that a Nexus device is finally coming to Big Red.

Different size, yes. But I don't think the color is different. If you look at these pictures comparing the GSM to the CDMA version, it's pretty easy to tell they're lit differently.

In the first picture, look at the gold contacts on the side for the dock.

It's easy to see, when lined up like this, that the contacts on our VZ version on the left are much duller. I'm about 100% sure that they'll be closer to the nice, shiny gold of the GSM version on the right.

In the second picture, look at the color of the camera lens, and the color of the flash.

There's no reason for these things to vary between versions.

My opinion is that the lighting was different in both of the photos, and both were lit from different angles. This difference in lighting can easily change perceived color.

Hope this helps put the whole different color argument to bed.

I'm pretty sure it's already been confirmed that it's charcoal instead of gunmetal gray.
