AT&T Galaxy S8 No Visual Voicemail App?

Thanks, Nonie. Yes, that is the blue app I had on my S7. That is the one I want. I dont have it in my app tray and it is not in the app manager on my phone. And in the Play Store, cant download it because it says not compatible with the S8. Any suggestions ? I am going to call AT&T Pro Enhanced Support through Assurian. Gonna call them right now. See if they can tell me how to get the app. Anyone else ?

I was told by AT&T tech support that the old voicemail app hasn't been supported since the GS5. The is an envelope icon that appears on the phone dialer letting you know that there is a voicemail. Tap and it will take you to the same place as the old app.

“Activate” was probably an overstatement. I can't remember exactly what I did. I went into settings and just did what seemed to make sense. All I know is it works just the way the previous AT&T app worked. You even get the same notifications.

Thanks, JCP. Well, I had the AT&T blue Visual Voicemail app on my S7 and it worked fine. And Nonnie has that app on her S8 and it works fine. But I hear you. I spoke to AT&T Enhance Pro Tech Support and they dont have a clue. They dont even have an S8 in front of them or screen shots of the phone ops or any written documentation. Totally worthless service. You write about some sort of envelope...not sure what you mean...dont know what it looks like...no clue. But I did write previously here about what I do have in substitute for the app. And sure that will work but with alot more steps. I would like the App. I will keep workng on it. Thanks again. Anyone else ? Do any of you folks have the blue voicemail app that came with your S8 ?

This. Mine is in the dialer; envelope icon on the lower left when the dialpad is shown, and it works perfectly.

Yep, I have that icon of the voice mail on the dialer pad screen. I wrote about that previously up above. It is a substitute for the visual voicemail app. It does show us our visual voicemail messages. But I would rather have the app. I had the app on my S7 and so did Nonie...and thers here even tho JCP was told that AT&T no longer supported the app since the S5. I guess they discontinued it...dont support it...if someone has it from a previous phone and it transfered over then it will work...but if one didnt transfer over from a different phone then they dont have it. The app is not available in the Google Play Store. I spoke with AT&T Pro Enhanced Support and they have no clue whatsoever. A total waste of money to use them. Well, if anyone has anything of value, I will follow the thread. Thank you.

Is there anyway to set-up this message board so that I can get replies on this thread when they are written ? Or do I have to come to the board repeatedly to look and see ? I dont see a way to set-up for automatic notification of new messages. Or am I missing something ?

My question really is to the group here...did anyone buy an S8 or S8+ and see the blue AT&T Visual Voicemail app native on the phone ? I did not. Did anyone ? Some people are saying they transfered their apps onto the S8 from the S7 and the app transfered over. My question is does the phone come native with the app ? I can walk over to an AT&T store or a Best Buy tomorrow but I am curious if anyone can answer that now. The idiots at AT&T Pro Enhanced Support cant even answer this simple question. I am cancelling my paid subscription to them tomorrow. They are never never never of any help. Waste of money.

Ok...here is a link to the AT&T Help website which confirms that the new S8 and S8+ do not come with the old blue visual voicemail app native on the phone. There is a substitute now from the dialing pad...bottom left corner...and new voicemails are indicated in the notification panel. That confirms it. We no longer have that great app. But it sounds like some people transfered over the app from their S7 and it is still working...which is great. I guess this subject is now fully answered. When a new voicemail is received, the Voicemail icon will appear in the Notification bar.
Select the Phone app from the home screen.
Note: To access Visual Voicemail, you must have already Set Up Voicemail. Alternatively, you can check your voicemail messages by selecting the Phone icon from the home screen > select and hold the 1 key > if prompted, enter your voicemail password > follow the prompts to listen to your messages. If you have forgotten your existing voicemail password, you will not be able to access voicemail until you reset your voicemail password.
Select the Visual Voicemail icon.
LISTEN TO VOICEMAIL: Select the desired voicemail.
ACCESS VOICEMAIL OPTIONS: Select the corresponding icon.
Select the Menu icon for more voicemail features such as Send text, Share, Save, and Export to file.
Note: View Access voicemail messages for tips to manage your voicemail. Go to Troubleshoot Voicemail for solutions to common voicemail problems.

Personally I prefer the VVM being integrated with the phone app, so I'm good with it; but on my previous phone (OnePlus 3), I had the AT&T VVM app that I downloaded from Google Play. So I know it's available to non carrier locked phones, and also as an apk if someone wanted to sideload it.

As I wrote previously above...the old blue AT&T visual voicemail app is not available in the Google Playstore. Which makes sense since the AT&T help website clearly states that the app is no longer provided native to the S8 phone and someone posted above that AT&T hasnt supported the app since the S5. But apparently if someone transfers the app from their older phone to the S8 then it will work.

Netwerx1, thank you very very much for the info on sideloading the old app as an apk to my new S8. Very nice of you. I am so tempted. But I dont know anything about side loading and I dont know what an apk is. I am going to however research those two things to see what the risks might be. I am clueless. But thank you. I am very tempted. I jsut dont want to break my new phone.
