Noisy pictures

Using an s9 and comparing to my wife’s s7 her pictures are much clearer and sharper. Mine if you zoom in even a bit they are noisy and blurry. What the hell? 2 generations newer and pictures are worse. This was at a well lit children’s museum so we have similar shots. I know there has been some complaints about the camera but haven’t seen noise yet. Anyone else. Or is there a “make my pictures look like crap” setting I have toggled on?

Maybe the auto focus/lighting didn't adjust properly, because we weren't there is hard to diagnosed what could have happened.

Phone cameras are getting more advanced even with the auto focus/lighting features you still have to tap the screen sometimes to help it adjust properly.

I have the s9+ and the first pictures I was taking were coming out to good, but with the small taps they've come out a little better.

this is my opinion and I could be completely wrong as I have no photography education.

I always tap to focus first and always did with my s7 edge as well. I’m just surprised with both an s7 and s9 in the exact same environment taking the same pictures and both in auto mode how bad the s9 was comparatively. Thanks for the input.

I completely understand it's still hit and miss with me for this phone, I'm activing trying to find the best settings or whatever the problem is.

I had the same issue as you: upgraded to an S9+ from an S7 and ended up returning it because pictures in indoor conditions were worse. Having said that, my pictures were softer/blurry, but I didn't notice noise on them. On the contrary I think part of the problem was aggressive noise reduction algorithms.

No I'm with you, I bought the s9+ for the camera and ditched my Pixel2XL and I literally ran back to Pixel. I think this DXO mark stuff is all fake news. I'm getting no where the quality photos that I get with my Pixel, especially low light where the s9+ was supposed to kill it. I like Samsung's product, always have but they are way behind on the camera. In fact I'd say my 5T is close to the s9+ in picture quality so that's saying something.

You are totally right and there is nothing to wonder about you doing something wrong. Either you tap the screen or not before taking a photo is the same result. I also have the S7 and you are totally right. Photos are DULL
SAMSUNG, for God sake you should do sth ASAP about this poor camera quality

Is it actually filled with noise or does it appear softer/out of focus?

I've only played with an S9+ inside a store, but I don't like how it defaults to the 1.5 aperture on a regular basis indoors. The shallow depth of field causes most of the image to be slightly out of focus, I preferred the way images looked manually switching to the 2.4 aperture.

Most of the pictures were at 2.4. Very disappointed with this camera. Unfortunately most “things” photograph decently sharp, but faces are often a muddy mess.

Also finding I hate the swipe interface a LOT. I can’t count the number of pics I’ve missed trying to tap to focus and it changes modes or to selfie. It should take more of a swipe. I’m often trying to get a quick pic of my 1.5 year old so I don’t perfectly tap and then I’m in selfie mode. I’ve never used a third party camera app before but I can’t stand this interface. It’s bad enough that it takes horrible pics but to miss those pics altogether is even worse. Any recommendations for a free camera app?

Hopefully someone at XDA will get the Pixel APK adapted to the S9+. I've given up trying to take pictures of my sons.
