Nokia 9 - How much excited do you are?

Well, I just watched the first videos with unboxings and first-hand analysis of this device, and have to say: I’m not so excited for a new smartphone since the first Galaxy Note, almost ten years ago. The design is just fine, screen is bright and with a good size, battery is good, but with some OS tweaks it promises to be a monster maybe in the same OnePlus level, and that bunch of lenses... look, obviously is too early and we need to put our hand in it before we can really say something about it, but the promises in new modes like that portrait one, are just amazing! Really, I had a really lot of smartphones till now, and in this exact moment I’m using an 6T McLaren and an iPhone X... but I’m thinking very seriously in buying this Nokia 9 in the first day and selling these two I have here.

Actually, in a broader sense, I’m finally very excited with the news we are having in this beginning of 2019. Obviously a very few people will pay 2k bucks in that Samsung Fold, but it is really revolutionary, again, in a sense no brand was capable to do since the first Galaxy Note. At same time, I really like the HMD market strategy with Nokia brand. To offer a full range of devices from low to high end is just the right thing to do, and HMD are doing it well. If it continues like that I really don’t doubt Nokia will figure between main brands in a short time. And if it continues to offer innovations like these in Nokia 9 in the next models, I’ll certainly will have some new Nokias in the next years, idea that I really enjoy a lot. I used to hope that Blackberry brand would ressurge like Nokia are doing, but unfortunately in this case the strategies are the worst possible, and now the brand are almost a zombie. Dead. But not in a grave, yet.

What are you thoughts about the new Nokia 9? Are you excited, too?

I was disappointed to find out there were no wide angle or telephoto lenses or huge 48mp sensors present however when they explained how the imaging system works, I was blown away. The biggest letdown in the presentation was the presenters themselves. They seemed nervous and I feel like they missed some key points that have sense been detailed further in different hands on videos on YouTube. They did not discuss video recording capabilities at all, whether that too takes advantage of 5 simultaneous lenses or a main one. They did not detail whether any lenses had OIS or not and they didn't showcase enough lowlight sample pictures either. But again I just think that was just some oversights on their part but I believe the Nokia 9 will perform as advertised and man is it exciting. I'm glad they worked with Qualcomm on a custom 845 chip. Hopefully the average sized 3320mAh battery will fair better than other SD 845 enabled devices because every single phone using this chip took a hit in battery life compared to the 835. I can't get enough of the different hands on videos of this phone though. I'm expecting big things.

Also Nokia's track record and promise of updates along with Android One is just the icing on the cake. 3 years of updates and monthly security updates for considerably less than the competition? Count me in. I've only used two OEMs on Android since switching from Windows Phone (I still have a working Lumia 1020) and the LG V series had my heart since the V10.(which I also have) This phone looks to be the smartphone camera of the year in terms of quality and depth if everything holds up in real usage. I still need to see how it handles video recording but everything looks great.

GSMArena has some nice camera samples on their site now too. Looks promising.

Yeah guys, I really think this gadget will be a beast. S10 is good, too, but this one with this camera setup looks much more innovative. Looking forward to put my hands on it.

Ok going to check them out now then.

Edit: I'm sold. The sample photos are simply gorgeous and pleasantly true to life without the Pixel and Apple style processing. Maybe I'm too hyped but I think the Nokia 9 Pureview will have the best photos we've seen from a phone in years. I'm calling it now; king of the smartphone camera for the rest of 2019.

I'm getting really tempted too as well. Unfortunately I don't think it'll be sold in Canada, however maybe I can grab a US variant on eBay.

B&H Photo ships to Canada and are an official seller.

Canadian carriers don't allow unlocked Android devices not purchased through them to use VoLTE, VoWifi, RCS, etc though.

Is there a headphone jack?

And when is the 9 released?

No headphone jack

While I love the revamp of the brands that used to rule the mobile world, there hasn't been a device that made me want to pick it up. But I'm glad that Nokia is still trying to keep it fresh.

It's coming!

One sad note, I just read the bands it supports on B&H and it doesn't support band 71 for TMobile.

Oh I didn't look into that. I've never got into the band camp(pun intended) but what does the omission of 71 mean for us? I'm on T-Mobile.

Yeah, so someone jump in here if I'm wrong.

But this is for the 600mhz frequency that TMobile bought that will really help with rural area reception. It's also going to be the bedrock for 5g (which frankly shouldn't be a concern since this isn't a 5g device, and that roll out is a whole other story).

But I mean it's not the end of the world but it wouldve been nice. For comparison the iPhone X sold without 71 and their users seem happy enough.

Ok gotcha. This won't be an issue for me then. Phones I've used without it have operated just fine going back to older devices like the V10. I just have to see about the easiest way to get it since I have to buy it unlocked. I need to see some reviews hopefully next week cause I'd rather get it for $600 than $700.

You can also get the phone for $100 off in the US during its launch week,

$599 is pretty compelling IMO, hope some reviews will be out before the promo ends.
That's exactly what I'm hoping for. Some real reviews on the camera experience in every day scenarios. I have no doubts about it's creative capabilities. I want to know how it performs just taking regular photos. I'm pretty confident about everything else outside of battery life. Those are the two main things I need to know about the Nokia 9 Pureview.

Yeah same here. For me the lack of a headphone jack/FM Radio are knocks against the device but if the camera lives up to the hype I'm willing to overlook it.
