Hey everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone with a Charge could download the app NoLED and see if it works. It's an LED replacement app that lights up a little icon on the screen, looks like a really nice alternative. I still don't understand why Samsung doesn't include notification lights on their phones, but this seems decent enough a remedy.

Thanks!

It should work for any phone. I don't see why it would have any problems running. It drains a lot of battery so I will never use it.

Does it drain that much battery? People seem to really love this app.

I tried it with limited success.

I used to be huge on having having to have the LED notifier. But since getting this phone I learned to live without it.

In theory, with an amoled display it shouldnt drain anymore than an LED would since amoled only needs to power the specific pixels that are lit as opposed to a backlit LCD display.

Interesting.

+1 i work for a company that develops the molecules and device structures that samsung uses in their screens.
on a regular phone this app would work but would completely destroy battery life since the backlights would remain on the whole time until you check the message. On an OLED screen you will see that all the non active pixels remain pitch black and only the notifier emits light

I knew that going into it so that's why I tried it. But for some reason it still seemed to impact battery life. I suppose it could have been anything causing that, but it seemed to go right back to normal once installed. I guess the best thing to do is try it and see if your experience is different.

Possibility?!

Ok so after some research and discussion with a couple people i realized something. The Epic (also made by Samsung w/ a AMOLED screen) shipped with NO LED support but after a few builds and mods magically there IS a LED hidden on the phone. and with a update (from Samsung) it was enabled....looking at the charge it is possible that the small notch next to the proximity and ambient light sensor could it be a disabled LED???

yeah that is the LED and according to a close friend who has the epic it was only a charge light at first, and didn't do notifications until after a update..Our Charge has no charge light so i am thinking were DOA but i stil dont have a good way to know for sure..

here is the upper region of the charge... after the close up I am less enthused about it being a LED :(

As requested~~ the Epic With notification light not charging.....still cant decipher all the Charges things....
1. light sensor
2. proximity
3. ??

A benefit of NoLED over a single-color LED physical light is that you know what type of notification you received.

It's helpful! There are times I know I need to answer a text, but don't really care about an email. So I can let it go.

When I first got this i said I thought it was weird there were 3 clear circles on the right. If one is the proximity sensor and one is the ambient light sensor, then what's the 3rd for ;-)

I'm holding out hope...
