nomedia file

Ok, I really need some help. I want to know how to prevent podcast from uploading to my google music and gallery apps. I use the PocketCasts app , which I love. Ive read that you need to put a .nomedia file in a folder to prevent the os to look in the folder. This file was already in the folder when I downloaded the app and the os still finds the mp3 files. Any advice would be appreciated.
