I was using a .nomedia folder in my folders that have about 400GB of photos and videos. I took it down as an experiment which aptly now shows on all my apps.

Well that got insanely annoying as it's just a dumpster fire every time I open an app so I went back to placing some folders back in as .nomedia and Wala....nothing. after even 5 restarts I'm still seeing all that junk in all those apps. HELP!!!

Just to be clear -- do you have a file called .nomedia in the folder, or did you name the folder .nomedia? It should the former -- make sure you have a blank text file named .nomedia in the folder that you want ignored by the system.

I just made a folder called .nomedia that worked before, will try a txt file and see if that works

Sorry, I'm getting a bit confused. You're saying that you added a file called ".nomedia" to the folder that contains images you don't want to see in the Gallery app, and those images still appear in the Gallery? If so, try going to Settings>Apps, select Gallery, then Clear Cache/Clear Data. Then open Gallery again and wait a few seconds for the database to rebuild. Are the unwanted images still there?

First, didn't know that option was there so thanks, but that didn't work.

I have the .nomedia.txt file in the parent directory. So Photos has a ton of folders and subfolders of folders. So it's sitting just under "Photos"

You want it to be a .nomedia file NOT a .nomedia.txt file. Get rid of the ".txt".

That's interesting, I've never used a .nomedia folder before -- the material I've read only ever refers to using .nomedia files.

Not sure why you can't rename that file. Can you try using a different file manager, like Total Commander, or one of the apps mentioned in this article? https://www.lifewire.com/nomedia-file-4172882

That app worked great, after I selected folders it went into some type of deep scan (phone is warm) removing all the files from apps. Gallery App is slowly not seeing anything. Probably just the fact that is is combing through 400GB of files.

Thanks for that article link!
