NOOB at Rooting!!!

wait, i thought you were going to unroot it?

im sorry but your post is kind of hard for me to understand.
you havent been able to unroot your phone?
i found a pretty easy do it yourself method that does not involve a computer, and another that does involve a computer but you put in the commands rather than a one click method. but the do it yourself involves a file manager and you just delete a couple files.

of course if you take in a rooted phone their going to blame everything on it. its absolutely no covered warranty.
you should have done something about the keyboard right away. i actually use mine on a semi regular basis

Okay... What I'm trying to say is that:

I rooted my phone. Before I rooted my phone, I had problems with the keyboard though. I had taken it in several times & Best Buy said that there was nothing wrong with it. The only thing they could do would be to send it out and they would check it. But more than likely, they weren't going to do anything. So I did that about three times.

Finally, I gave up and just went ahead and rooted my phone. Now I have the Phoenix Kernel, I have the Epic Experience, & I have the Envy Matte theme on my phone. Its all perfect BUT!!! the keyboard still sucks. So I got fed up with it and erased everything off my phone... (Factory Reset!!)

I'm still rooted, I tried using Odin but its not even showing up that its connect to my computer, (my phone that is), I tried the Samsung USB Cord, a brand-new Blackberry USB Cord, & I tried my old Palm Pr

Try a different USB port. Only one port on my computer works for recognizing my Epic with Odin.

FAILLLL!!! I didn't realize that my post was cut off Haha...

I've tried a different USB port, I've actually tried all of them. I just give up. Idk why it doesn't want to connect.

Why would they say there's nothing wrong with it if the keys don't work?

Try uninstalling your drivers and reinstalling with the drivers in that rooting thread.

I don't need help rooting... I've already rooted my phone. I need help UNrooting my phone...

man idk what kind of research you do but heres the easiest way to possibly do it from your phone:

What's the big deal???

Use Root Explorer, go to system/bin, tap ("RW" button in upper right, if it says "RO" leave it alone)

Look for Su file and delete it ...If you installed Busybox it will be there also, delete it too. (check in system/xbin for both also just in case)

DO NOT EXIT ROOT EXPLORER YET..

Then go to system/app and look for Superuser.apk and delete it...

Reboot and you are no longer Rooted.

You can also do all this with a bunch of ADB commands and all that stuff, if you like typing and chances of mistyping a command :-)

That will certainly help get rid of traces of rooting, but superuser and busybox are not what gives your phone root access. I've been rooted several times without either of those installed. He really needs to get Odin to work so he can flash back to stock using the .tar file. That's the easiest sure-fire way of wiping the slate clean.

What about clockwork? What if they decide to try to put it into recovery and it shows up something different?

Flashing back to stock using Odin will get rid of everything, including Clockwork. If you're still at an impasse, my next suggestion would be to try using a different computer

What is the stock kernel version number? I finally got Odin to work and I thought I grabbed the stock kernel but the version number is like 2.6.29. I need a way to completely stock my phone. (If that's a term) Bestbuy told me, get the phone to stock and then they can help me. They were very rude about it. The man was pretty much yelling at me and I was being calm the entire time. I really didn't appreciate his tone with me. I told him that I understand that I rooted my phone and that I was fixing it but the problem I had was completely hardware. Not software... this is really irritating me.

IIRC that's sounds right for Eclair (I can't physically check because I'm on Froyo). If you followed this guide then you are back to 100% stock.

The man seen I had a different launcher (launcher pro) but he didn't know it was an app so automatically he assumed I was running on root. Which I had been before, but I am not anymore. And then he tried to point out different things that only a "rooted" phone can do. But he fail and yet he still started yelling at me and then told me my kernel number was wrong. So I just wanted to make sure. Idk how to take a screen shot with out rooting but this is exactly what my phone says:

Model Number: SPH-D700
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: S: D700.0.5S.DI18 (No space. I just had to so it wouldn't show an emoticon.)
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
Build Number: SPH-D700 Eclair.DI18
Hardware Version: D700.0.5

I flashed using Odin back to stock. Maybe someone could tell me which link to use. Take me back to stock Epic before any updates. I'm tired of Best Buy telling me its rooted when its not. I'm just going to need a link to the PIT file, then the kernel file, and then the entire TAR file that's like ~250 something MB. Please please please. I read that link you gave me... that's for rooting. I want to unroot. Unless there's a post that I missed... :-\ Thanks again...
