Noob Question: Google Account and pay store without Gmail?

I love Outlook.com (the email service and the fact i got the username i wanted, which i cant do with Gmail.

I see you can create with any email address, does this also let you use android, the play store and things like chromecast without having a gmail?

I'm not sure, as I have had GMail for a very long time. You could just make a Google account and never give that gmail address to anyone and continue using your Outlook.com address.

I you can use the device without a Google account. But because a lot of the features rely on the account to function you'll have problems using various apps/features. For example Apps, you can us Amazon, so at least you'll have access to the apps you'll need when using the device.
