I have read several "adding a ringtone to a G-Nex" posts but can't find one that fits my particular situation. I've edited an mp3 to cut out a few seconds of the beginning of a song and saved the file as an mp3. i've added it to my sdcard\Ringtones folder and rebooted and it does not show up in my settings>sounds>ringtone options nor in my contact specific ringtone options, or on my quickprofiles ringtone options. I've gone back and added the file under sdcard\media\audio\ringtones and rebooted and nothing. I've added them under sdcard\ringtones and sdcard\media\audio ringtones. I still can't get the ringtones to show up as an option to select.

So I've saved the mp3's as .ogg files and repeated the process and still no ringtones. I have zedge on my phone and have downloaded ringtones successfully from there, does anyone know why I can't get my own mp3's on the phone?

Thanks in advance and sorry for yet another ringtone thread....

I tried that and still no dice...I am at a loss here. i uploaded it to my sdcard\ringtones folder and rebooted...and no go.

Here's what I ended up doing.

I have my music on my Desktop, so I downloaded Wavepad from download.com and use that to cut and mp3 down to the section I want to use. I then either email it or transfer it via usb to the sdcard\Ringtones card. Rebooting, however never brings it up in my ringtone list, so I downloaded Ringtone Maker (I would have used Ringdroid, but the App Market page said it was good for OS versions up to 2.x). I Open Ringtone Maker and then open the edited mp3 file from my sdcard\Ringtone directory and just save it as a ringtone. I don't edit it or anything, just open it with Ringtone Maker and somehow it sets it so that my ringtone list recognizes the new file.

It's a bit of a pain, but it works.

Can't you just use Ringtone Maker to make/edit the ringtone instead of doing it on the pc then transferring over?

Yes you can, but I only have my music on my desktop and the bigger display makes it easier to see where to put the cut in just the right place. I cut it on the desktop and save space/downloading time.

Is Ringtone Maker saving it to a new location? I noticed when I use OI File Manager to explorer my storage on the phone there is an SD card folder and in that folder there is another SD Card folder. I wonder if your saving it in the wrong spot and the app saves it in the correct spot. maybe?

I downloaded Tone Picker from the Market. When you go to change your ringtone, it'll let you pick any file. I had edited an mp3 and dropped it in the Ringtone folder. It'll ask you if you want to change the ringtone with the stock app or Tone Picker.

Pretty simple!

I just try putting some ringtones on sdcard/ringtones folder (drag or copy) they do show up and working just fine :)

Same here. I just copied some mp3's to the Ringtones folder then they show up with all the stock ones when I go to select.

DanV1369-

That is a good question. I'm using Astro and when I open Astro the default address is \mnt\sdcard...but I can back up the file tree and there is also a straight sdcard directory...bot the mnt\sdcard and sdcard directories appear to have the same files. Either way, the mp3 files I ws looking for were in both "Ringtone" folders.

vientiane\martonikaj-

That's the main question I have for this post. Every ringtone post I read said to just past the file in your "Ringtones" folder. I did that and rebooted many times and my sound selection never included my mp3 files. I still don't know why. Me using Ringtone Maker is a workaround, but I still don't have a solid answer as to why I can't do it the tradional way. I do have Zedge, Quickprofiles, Quickprofiles Pro, and lightflow working to manage my sounds and notifications. I don't know if there is a conflict there or not.

same problem here, doesnt matter where i put them the system doesnt recognise them. I wonder if its because im using esfile explorer rather than via usb to pc?

You say you have zedge? the way to do it using zedge is to copy any audio file into the zedge directory, and then they always show up in the system tones. Works for notifications, alarms etc.

I discovered this by fluke. Once the files are in the zedge directory (zedge/ringtones) you can then use sound/ringtone/media storage (not zedge) to select them as they will be listed there!

ps that last bit sound/ringtone/media storage means from pghone settings as if you were selecting standard notifications etc...
