When the Nook HD 7 came out, it received generally favorable reviews. Then Google Play was added and the reviews became down right positive. It is an old tablet for sure. I'm thinking of picking up a cheaper tablet for ereading, email, internet browsing, and light gaming (keyword is light). I was thinking of getting a Tegra Note because I like stylus input, but it seems to me that the Nook HD 7 would handle all my required tasks (minus the stylus). At its regular price, I'd rather pay the extra for a Tegra Note, but Target has it for $80 for black friday. This seems to me to be the best tablet deal of the season. Add in the fact that it has support for multiple profiles, which would be great for restricting what my kid has access to when using the tablet, and it becomes even more appealing. It is a genuinely good tablet with google play and a decent screen for under $100. What do you all think? Would you buy yourself (or maybe a child) a Nook HD for $80?

For light use as mentioned in your post, it might be worth the $80. If you think it'll be used more intensely at a later time then invest in the better tablet now.

And if you want to use it for hours of reading make sure it's lightweight. It's amazing how much it can start to hurt if you're holding a chunkier tablet for over an hour.

It would definitely be light weight tasks. I have my phone with a Moga for mobile gaming, a Chromebook for mobile productivity, an Asus ROG G75 for power jobs and gaming, I just want something bigger than my phone but more comfortable to use than the Chromebook for reading, emailing, browsing the news, etc.

Then you are fine. At $80 its a steal. At $129 it wasn't bad either. 1440?900 display, dualcore and a 1GB of RAM with the play store make it one of the best tablet deals for black Friday weekend. I also looked at the Intel HP tablet for $89 on Walmart.com. I think the Nook HD beats it on display though. I like my brands to match though, and wanted the HP tablet to go with my HP chromebook.

I agree with Aaron's post above. Jump on the deal and enjoy the device - don't forget to let us know what you think about it if you decide to make the purchase.
