I just got off phone after an hour with Acer's customer support. I contacted them regarding the extremely low microphone recording level on my Iconia Tab A500. Their determination is that my tablet is functioning at 100%. They stressed several times it is an entertainment device and not a communication device. They said it is not designed for using Skype orFring. Suggested I buy their Windows tablet instead if I wanted something that would allow use of voice communication services.

So despite the fact that I love everything about the Iconia, I guess I will take it back to Best Buy and buy a brand that is not purely an entertainment device instead.

Update ... apparently I was mistaken in the mic volume related to using Skype. I was basing my evaluation based on the call testing service in Skype, which played back my voice recording so low I had to strain to hear it. I called a co-worker on Skype this morning to test, and she could hear me fine. So, while I'm still not happy with the response from Acer customer support, I have to report that my Iconia Tab A500 can indeed be used acceptably for Skype calls.

hehe... You went and got all worked up over nothing! ;)

Pretty sad customer support trying to send you to the Windows tab, but you get the last laugh! Glad it worked out. :)
