Not able to make any calls - Dialer searches for Skype

As always for outgoing calls, the Dialer gives me an option to dial using phone or skype. I always was choosing Phone + Use once. However, after I upgraded skype, even after I chose Phone, it was using Skype. This was extremely annoying as I never set it to "Always" and there was nothing in the Default in the configuration of the Phone Dialer or Skype. For every call after 2-3 tries it would dial using the phone. It was as if skype had hijacked the dialer. After being frustrated, I uninstalled skype. But...the dialer still tries to dial via skype!!! Again I have to try 2-3 times and then I am able to make a call.

Please help - I am not able to make any calls. FYI...have the latest version of Android and Samsung Galaxy S3.

From any Home screen, press the Menu button, select Settings, scroll down and select Application manager, press the Menu button again and select Reset app preferences.

I agree with the above... Likely it was set some how to default. Either by accidental always selection or otherwise. But I would try to clear the default for the dialer to see of it helps. Odd it didn't fix it when you uninstalled Skype though.

Hope it works. Good luck.

Hi Vishal,

I have the same problem and tried many options like reinstalling skype, resetting app preferences, restarting phone etc. Whenever I make a call; it attempts via Skype first and I have to make a call for the second time to go through the dialer. I wish I dont have to reinstall the OS itself. Even if Skype is uninstalled it tries shows a blue bar like skype is starting and then returns back. Please let me know if anyone has any solution.

Thanks,

The Skype app has really taken a hit recently in Google Play Store comments. I didn't see this particular issue mentioned but perhaps I just didn't read far enough back.

When you installed Skype did it require Administrative privilege? If so you'll have to manually undo that.

If worse-comes-to-worst you can perform a Factory Reset and that should clear up this issue. Remember to backup your data first.

Let me see if I understand correctly - you performed a Factory Reset, you didn't reinstall Skype (and you made sure the Google Play Store didn't automatically install it for you behind your back) and yet when you use the Dialer it's somehow trying to start Skype? Can you post a screenshot?

I suppose you could try booting into Recovery mode and clearing the cache and see if that helps.

Here is the simple solution, go to application manager/ All / Skype / and uninstall Skype from there , where you will get force stop / uninstall options . than make calls will use phone dallier as default
late you may again install Skype and go with normal ,

Zeealn. i think u dint read the whole thing, Even after uninstalling skype, still it tries to dial via skype failing to find skype nothing happens, then after 2 or 3 attempts it goes for the original dialer.

unable to find any solution till now

Just wanted to chime in. What did it for me was... from the home screen press the menu button, then press Settings -> Applications -> All -> Skype. When in the Skype app info area, just scroll down to the section "Launch by default" and press the "Clear defaults" button and that should do it. If this does not work for you I apologize, this is just what fixed it for me. By the way, my phone is Samsung Galaxy S2. Cheers!

I'm sure some people are still having problems with this but to remove Skype as the default dailer, go to setting on the home screen, applications, manage applications, select Skype and then clear defaults.

Yeah, I use to face similar issues regarding dialling Skype calls, but I now use RHUB`s free audio conferencing service and it simply works flawlessly.
