I have a T-mobile HTC one M8. I usually have mobile data off, and wifi on and I have not been able to recieve MMS messages (pictures and video through messaging) that have been sent to me. Is there something in the settings that I need to change? I use a texting app called Textra, but also using the native app nothing seems to show up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried receiving MMS with mobile data on?
Switch to airplane mode for a couple minutes.
If nothing then, reboot with fastboot disabled.
If not, shut down phone and remove/reinsert Sim card.

You need mobile data on to get the MMS. If you're using the wifi calling feature of T-Mobile it can recieve MMS via wifi but only with the stock app.. A 3rd party app can't touch the protocol (T-Mobile's doing).

this option for that exact problem exists in textra.

Thanks, I figured it had something to do with mobile data being off. I checked the option "Activate Mobile Data" in Textra, so hopefully this will solve that problem. I assume there is no way to somehow retrieve the old MMS that were sent but failed to reach me b/c of Wifi (w/o asking the sender to send again)?

I recall using some SMS apps that let you retry downloads...can't remember which ones. not textra. but that may be a hassle and idk how many you've missed so far...

MMS video quality is awful, generally. Ask them to use a better method such as email or cloud hosting.

Video through text message

I can't even send video through my text messages only messages and pictures. Can anyone else send videos through text messenger.

The video has to be very small. Like very crappy quality and short. So like a 240p video that's like no longer than 20 seconds maybe. Probably can't be more than a few MB.

My phone has an attachment button for the message app. One of its options is to record video for MMS. The quality/format are naturally awful, so I just use Dropbox and send the recipient a text link.
