Not able to select Endomondo for action "Start a run" in Android Wear

For some reason the action "Start a run" in the Android Wear app is grayed despite that I have Endomondo installed. This indicates to me that for some reason Android Wear does not recognize Endomondo as an app that can be used on the Moto 360, but this must be wrong. The Endomondo app is also not visible on the Moto 360.
What can I do to remedy this?
