not allowing me to add a calendar

Hi there,

I *knew* I should *not* have let the VZW clerk set up my personal data on my phone. GRRRRR!

I made a new Gmail account just for my phone because I don't do my email on it. My plan is to use this new account strictly for syncing my calendar and tasks. I have my new Gmail addy added to my phone, it shows it will sync my email and my contacts but it does not show syncing my calendar or my tasks.

When I try to add my new G-calendar to the default Android calendar the option to add a calendar is greyed out so I can't add it. It shows the email addy that the clerk set up. On the top field on the screen it says "All calendars" below that is the email addy the clerk set up. I click the menu button and get the + button to add calendars, click it and the little popup window has the OK button greyed out and the cancel button is not.

Settings --> Accounts & Sync the new Gmail shows up, I click that it shows Sync Contacts and Sync Gmail, that's it.

Settings --> Accounts for the one the clerk put in shows Sync Contact, Sync Gmail, Sync Calendar. I try to remove the account the clerk put it and the phone asks me if I really want to delete etc ... I click REMOVE the phone tells me "This account is required by some applications. You can only remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults (which deletes all of your personal data). You do that in Settings, under SD and phone storage."

Ok, so what personal data does it delete? When I go to SD and Storage the Factory reset option says it erases ALL data on phone making me more than HUGELY nervous to do this!

How the h do I fix this, please?

I'm not sure I can figure out exactly what is going on but here are a couple of ideas.
1. Make sure your google calendar is set up online.
2. Make sure all your contacts in your phone have sync'd to your gmail.com account (log onto your gmail account from a computer and look under contacts to verify this)
3. Go ahead and reset your phone to factory defaults follow the on screen directions to re set up your accounts. It won't hurt anything. You will just lose all your personal info but all your contacts should have backed up to your gmail account already.

Good luck

Calendar is set up in G. Not worried about contacts, right now there are none in that account. Specifically what personal data is it going to remove? My name and the email addy this gal put in? Or is it going to remove all the program settings and everything else specific to my liking that I've just spent days working on?

It will reset everything, ringtones, notifications ect.. but it's very easy to set up once you reset. It walks you right through the set up.

It sounds like it will also delete any apps I downloaded and installed from the Market :( Basically you're telling me I will have a brand new phone - again - that I must totally reconfigure, correct? I know you don't know me but I've set a LOT of things up the way I *think* I want them.

Is there just a way to edit the email addy she entered as my default?

Anybody know of a way to just edit the default email/personal information so that I don't have to reset to default? I can't set up mail, calendar, sync etc unless I get this phone set up with the email addy I want to use.

It is sad to say but yes. If you do a factory reset you will loose everything you have spent the last few days working on. I have had to do that when my Dinc speaker died and I had to get a new one. I don't have my Tbolt yet (should be here later today), but on my Dinc if I go under settings-accounts & sync-google-remove account...that lets me start over with just my Gmail account.

Deb, do you have AUTO-Sync activated? If it isn't your Google/ gmail will be grayed out. Background data also needs to be activated or gmail sync won't be available. Even using auto sync, you can go back and reselect auto sync individually for apps you may not use ie:stock ticker. Hope this helps.

Yes and Yes.

I managed to set up another email (that's actually working both incoming AND outgoing!) and what I'm going to do is call 611. Maybe they can tell me how to edit it or maybe they can delete it or something. I just cannot deal with having to start over from scratch on this thing unless it's absolutely necessary.

Even though I have a working email addy now, I still can't add another calendar :(
