Going to buy a Maxx in the next few days. Last time I upgraded phones, as soon as I logged into my google account, it started downloading the apps that were on my previous phone. That was cool last time, but this time I'd like to be more judicious in what I install and I want to disable some of the Verizon apps before I start installing things. Is there a setting somewhere on the phone or in google that will keep it from auto-installing apps?

Thanks,
Marc

In that case, no. Google is restoring your apps from the last time you synced. You can stop auto updates in Play>Settings.

There should be an option to auto restore applications I believe but whether one can do that during initial setup or only during factory restore I don't recall.

On my previous phones there were 2 check marks for me in the initial setup. If I remember correctly this one does as well. 1 for restoring contacts etc and another for restoring play store apps. Just uncheck the play store one.

Do housecleaning before you transfer. Uninstall the stuff you no longer want....

Thanks. I'll look for that when I first set it up. Couldn't remember if I had a choice last time or not.

Thanks. I thought about doing a reset on my current phone before i activate the new one.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I just wanted to give everyone a heads up if they upgrade from a Bionic (or possibly another Motorola) that the new Maxx automatically downloaded the old Moto Voice Commands app from my Bionic when I did my switch. Something I don't think you can actually uninstall on the old phone. I did encounter some issues with some voice commands on the Maxx at first, but once I uninstalled (not just disable) that app, things have been perfect. Other than that small issue, this new phone is awesome! I don't think I can ever go back to a phone w/o active notifications...
