AC Question

So before asked yes I updated to Marshmallow. But ever since my push notifications have stopped working since the re-fix for this issue before when the lollipop update bug happened. I have reset the phone to factory. Dumped cache. Disabled IPV6 on my router even. Once again just like before with Wi-Fi off have no issues with push notifications. The only thing I can think of is replacing the sim. I am out of troubleshoot options I can think of. I am about ready to smash the phone and send the pieces to LG themselves with a colorful worded note.

Welcome to Android Central! For those of us not familiar with the Lollipop bug, are you saying that notifications only come through when on mobile data, but not on wi-fi? Does that happen on any wi-fi, or only certain networks?

Yes to push notifications come through on Mobile Data but on Wifi it does the exact bug like lollipop(no push notifications appear until I disable wifi). Also yes its any wifi. I have been using 5ghz n 2.4ghz on my home wifi and on both it does not allow push notifications through until I disable Wifi. My only thought recently was to do the IPV6 root disable on the phone.

Go to Settings>Wi-fi, tap Menu>Advanced, and see if there are any options like "Wi-fi optimization" or "Smart Network Switch." Turn those off.

Checked that just now and there is no options like that in the Advanced menu. I did remember just now way back when the lollipop issue arose for Verizon someone switched the network from global to LTE/CDMA and had some luck. This is really by far the worst bug I have experienced with any cell phone I ever owned. It also appears I am the only one effected by this.

Have you already tried Safe Mode, to see if it might be due to some 3rd party app misbehaving from the new system update?

I did however find in developer mode an option to use Legacy DHCP from lollipop going to see if this fixes the problem.

Right after the complete phone reset to factory and cache dump. I installed no apps and updated the preinstalled apps. Ran hangouts and gmail. Connected to Wifi and still had the same issue.

Just tried safe mode still not working. Even sent myself an email to the account on my phone and waited 5 mins and nothing then disconnected wifi and within seconds got the notification for new email and hangouts

It really sounds like some kind of firmware issue. Bring the phone to your Verizon store and show them the problem. Ask them what they can do about it, since it was their update that caused this issue.

Well after you recommended safe mode, I restarted the phone then turned it off and re-did a cache wipe and its working correctly again. Maybe there was a bug in some pre-installed app and after the cache wipe it fixed itself. Honestly this G3 and it's many issues still perplex me.

Hmm. Well, I'm glad it's working again. But keep an eye out for recurrences!

Yep its happening again now. Worked well for 4/5 hours then went back to same issue.
Edit: Ok after doing another cache wipe its working again but whats weird is it removed google keyboard. Going to see if that's the issue. How that would be puzzles even me.

I think I may have missed this before, but the phone is rooted? Because to my knowledge, an unrooted G3 won't let you wipe the cache partition. If you're rooted, did you remove or freeze any system apps?
