Not happy with the LED notification, or lack thereof. G7 ThinQ

I've read several posts about the LED on the G7 ThinQ not notifying of texts, etc. I wish I had known about this before I chose this phone! I don't understand how I'm supposed to know I have a text if the light doesn't blink, or it blinks so infrequently that I have to stare at it to notice it. I work in a quiet (study) environment at a college, and I have to have my phone silenced virtually all the time. I find myself checking it constantly. And when it's silenced at night how am I supposed to know if I have a text? I don't ask a lot of a phone, but this is ridiculous! Any suggestions, short of returning it and going back to a Samsung? Thanks!

3 words. Always on display. It's far more superior and informative than any blinking red light ever was.

I was under the impression LG brought back the notification LED with the LG g7. I'd double check it. Also try apps like light flow or light manager to control colors and blink rates.

I use Light Flow. It works great with the G7. You can set just about any app for notifications.

It's not the phone. It's the app. I use both Textra and Nine mail. Both were recently updated which made the led blink frequency longer. According to both Textra and Nine, it's Google's API that messed it up. This is from Textra: "Important: From November 1, all app updates must be built against Android API 26 (Oreo) to ensure apps provide the most modern Android Features to users"
