Verizon Galaxy S8 Not Installing Pie

I have been notified by Verizon that my "upgrade" to Pie on my S8 is now available but I do not want to install Pie because my call recorder app will stop working.

Is there a way to stop the daily reminder that the upgrade is available? Also, at some point will I be forced to upgrade?

How do you know it will stop working?

It is, or was, possible, yes. My S8 remains on Android 7 which was flawless out of the box. No desire to "upgrade", if it's working, why fix it

You need something that isn't always available in the Play Store which is Package Disabler Pro (Samsung).

Install that and then disable the "Software Update" package. The phone will no longer detect any updates.

If I install the suggested app and then tell it to disable the software Update, can I later have the update installed if I change my mind (if yes how). Also, will I still get other updates like security updates that Samsung\Verizon issue for my S8?

If you disabled software updates, you no longer get security updates or OS updates, and enhancements plus some apps wont play well with older andriod version as developers update them for newer OS , its definitely but strong chance.

But some advice before you uninstall package disabler make sure you enable everything you disabled , because you can run into issues just uninstalling it without enabling everything again.

You can always re-enable "Software Updates" and the phone will then detect and pull relevant updates and then nag/force you to install them.

You have no choice in the matter of which you install and which you refuse. You can't "just have the security patches".

So I refused them all. It's all so unsophisticated and the worst problem is there's no rollback if the update doesn't work for you - it's a big risk to take and an enormous omission of basic OS functionality.

Many times, updates may be dependent on what OS version you are running. If you are still on 8.0 and one of the monthly updates has a prerequisite of 9.0, it can't install.

None at all. To the operating system.

On mine, I can go into the Play Store, then list my apps, see any that have updates available and then manually choose whether to install them or not. Since I have App auto downloads and updates separately disabled this doesn't happen by itself.

That said, certain apps manage to get around this and update themselves. But the OS and patch level will remain stuck as it was when you disabled Software Updates. The phone will simply remain unaware that there are any.

Running Android 7 (the one out-of-the-box and seemingly the best of the lot) I have never come across an app that insists on a later version to run, but that may happen in time.
