Not receiving all text messages

Hey everyone. I just got the S4 and this is an amazing device to say the least, I am very impressed. The only thing that is bugging me is when a coworker sends me a text from their iPhone it doesn't come through on my phone but it comes through the imessage on my ipad. Is imessage it because imessage is turned on or is there another issue? I am on Verizon. Thanks for any help

have you rebooted your phone lately? can you get a message if you send to your phone from your ipad?

I did a reboot, not a factory reset but just restarted it. I don't get any messages when I send them from my ipad. The issue is sporadic. Thursday I missed 2 messages, I never had a problem with it yesterday and I've missed a couple messages today. It's only when a text comes from an iPhone and it doesn't matter who the contact is.

Turn off iMessage from your phone and iPad. It should be fine within an hour, but keep it off for a few days to be safe. This worked for me when I switched from my iPhone to my Samsung Galaxy S4
