I just updated my Galaxy Nexus on Verizon to Jelly Bean and now I do not get some messages that contain Spanish accent marks. I don't even get notified at all that a message came. When I log on to my Verizon account, I see that a message was received, but never made it to my phone. The person that sends me the message has the same phone and same carrier and it shows that she has sent the text.

I then tried to send her the text from my phone to her phone and she also does not receive it. I have sent that text to various contacts and the people that have a Nexus with Jelly Bean on Verizon do NOT get the text. But, if I use Google Voice to send those texts, it goes through fine. I called Verizon and they also tried texting me a long text that contained accent marks and they never made it to my phone. Then they sent the same texts and removed the accent marks and the text came through fine. Verizon says that this is a problem with Google and they will notify them, etc. They told me to tell my contacts to not use accent marks when they text me (wow, what a good solution).

Here is a sample of a particular text that never makes it to a Nexus with Jelly Bean on Verizon if anyone wants to try it on their phone:
Y sera q nos puede ayudar a enviar los documentos d mi hermano para la cita.llegar?amos como alas 6

Does anyone have ANY suggestions? I really love Jelly Bean and do not want to switch back to ICS.

I don't see anything on the settings about text encoding. The problem is that I can send it to most of my contacts and they all get the message, except for the contacts that have a Nexus w/Jelly Bean on Verizon. Even if there was a text encoding problem, I should still get some kind of text, even if it's unreadable.

Yea that the odd thing about it, but it only happens when you use national symbols so it kind of look like encoding issue, something don't like those Spanish accent marks. I gogoled a little bit and according to this:

CDMA (which Verizon is using) which doesn't support anything else then standard latin latters, so i guess your SMS app (and apps in other phones) used some hacks workarounds they gone when you updated and unable to read it or missclassfy the message.

Do your friends with Galaxy Nexus with JB have same problem when they sending? If yes, that might be a general problem with JB for CDMA , then i guess you need to google something up as you not the only one.

You could also try 3rd party SMS app, but imo they kind of not trustworthy
