Not so random shutdowns

There has been a lot of discussion about random shutdowns...I had the problem and ended up factory restoring...This "kinda" fixed. I no longer have random shut downs but I do have shut downs...they are 100% repeatable. The ONLY time I have a shut down is when the phone is in my car at work over night. The only thing I can see that is different is that it is on edge instead of 3g. I've had it on the charger, off the charger, fully charged, lower charge, etc. All result in a shut down if left in an area in edge coverage. To be fair, I haven't tried it in other edge coverage areas, but in the 4 weeks since I did the factory restore, it hasn't shut down once at home (3g) but shuts down 100% of the time when left in car at work (edge).

Any idea why being in edge coverage area would affect it like this?

Right now I'm back to stock 2.1 with update, no root.

Does the battery die? I had a BBB that did the same thing to me 2-3x when the tower close to me went down and it fluctuated between 3G and Edge. The BBB just died completely overnight constantly looking for/switching between the signal. If you still have battery life, I do not know what the issue would be.

No, the battery was good. By how much was left, I would say the phone was on an hour or so before it shut down.
