Not sure if this has to do with CyanogenMod or Google

So I recently flashed a CyanogenMod ROM onto my phone and I've noticed a big problem. So because I flashed a CyanogenMod ROM I had to install the Google Play Store and Google Play Services, Google Play Services doesn't seem to work properly.

So in my notifications i keep getting this from Google Play Services "google play services won't run unless you update google play services". Also I get a window popping up every 5 seconds or something saying "Google Play Services has stopped.", I've tried installing an older version of Google Play Services and restoring a working version of Google Play Services from another phone using Titanium Backup. So I backed up Google Play Services on another phone ( Google Play Services is working on that phone ) and then restored it on this phone.

About the device I'm using:

Device: Samsung Galaxy S2
Model: GT-I9100
Android version: 5.0.2
CyanogenMod version: 12-20150102-UNOFFICIAL-i9100

So I don't know if this has to do with CyanogenMod or Google.

Reinstall the gapps and see if that fixes your problems. If not, go into recovery and fix permissions then reboot. Thy should fix your problem... Let us know how that works.

Just reinstalled Gapps and I'm still getting the Google Play Services has stopped

Hi there, you are running an unofficial build, which can be problematic support wise. However, what I would do is to do a clean flash of the device. Backup any data that you don't want to lose, then totally wipe the device and reflash a CM build and gapps.

I'm going to flash cm-12.1-20150714-NIGHTLY-i9100 and Gapps, I'll let you know if this helps

It worked, Google Play Services runs fine. I will however miss the option to chose my preferred install location

With the version I was running I had the option to chose where my apps where installed, but with the one I'm using now I don't have that option. Do I have to enable it or does it mean I have to partition my SD card?

Other than that thanks for the help and I'm happy to be using cyanogenmod.

Apps2SD is something that I always recommend against if possible. While I know that it's something that is widely practiced, I'm not a big fan. Performance issues and other complications. That being said, in settings > apps then clicking the app, do you not see a button that says move to SD card?

I do see move to SD card, but under apps in the version I was using if I pressed my menu button or the three dots there was an option called "Preferred Installation Location" and I could chose between internal, SD card and USB storage. I looked for it in the version I'm running now and it wasn't there.

And using Link2SD has been a pain for moving apps to the SD card.

What version of CM were you seeing this option? Trying to find out if it was removed and not added back for a reason or if we have hit an issue.

Was using:
CyanogenMod version: 12-20150102-UNOFFICIAL-i9100

Now using:
CyanogenMod version: 12.1-20150714-NIGHTLY-i9100

Hmmmm. The hurdle I hit here is that with unofficial builds there is not much support that I can provide. I can however confirm that I also do not have a place where I can set default storage location. I am going to ping some others in the company to see what the process may have been and why it is not in the builds.

Glad you replied so I can circle back here. I spoke with some people in the office here, and this functionality was removed on purpose as it's buggy and causes some pretty nasty issues as a whole. It was done to prevent major issues on the user side. I don't have an ETA or idea on if or when it will be added back.

OK, thanks again. I didn't notice any problems with it on the unofficial build, I will however say that it was a nice option to see. But even without the option CyanogenMod is still pretty amazing, keep up the awesome work over there.
