Hello Everyone!

I have been looking through your forums for some time and I appreciate the wealth of information.

I want to first off say I apologize if this has been asked before. I thought I did a pretty good job searching before I posted (this site and others). I am not sure if I just dont know the right verbage for my search.

Device details.

Device: Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Carrier: Verizon
Current version: 4.0.1

Problem,
Trying to get to the latest version that verizon is trying to push I think 1.0.2?

I have unlocked my phone and just kept the stock Samsung "OS/ROM" (whatever the verbage is). No custom ROM though. Just stock.

When i try to download/install the push from verizon/google. I think it is called the OTA. It appears to download, but when it reboots it flashes the droid dude with a red caution symbol. Cant go any further from there.

I relocked my phone and it does the same thing.
I cleared the cache and restored to factory settings and it does the same thing.

So i guess I am not sure what to do at this point.

I was starting to look to see if there was a way to manually download/install the update via the PC.

The problem is I think I have found the correct file from google.

Download file name: mysid-icl53f-factory-65895fa8.tar

Used WinRar to extract.

I extract the content (just one file): mysid-icl53f-factory-65895fa8

Now When i have looked at ways to manually install this update there appears to be several files including a ".img" file. I cant find any of those anywhere on the net that I have searched.

Sooo in short, I am new to the whole rooting/unlocking droids. I have become pretty good at it because of the issues I have ran into.

I am not sure what avenue to persue as far as getting the phone updated to ICL53F (the OTA update verizon is trying to push).

Do you folks know of a way to get the OTA to work?
or should I look at manually installing the update via my pc and can you provide a specific link to the files I need to download and a little love on the instructions of doing so.

again thanks so much. I am at a loss at this point. I have been search various forums for days now.

Thanks again!

Basically stock ics with some better tweaks.

Thanks Twin dragon. I see the link is to a custom rom. I guess I should ask. Is there a way to turn off the notification that I need to update every few moments?

I would like to be on the latest release from Google. But I cant live without it.

What I really want is to stop it from prompting me to upgrade. Do you have any ideas how to do that or if it is possible?

Again much appreciated and thanks for the speedy reply.

If you install the zygot 2.0 you will be running version 4.0.3 and will not get OTA notifications ever again. By running custom roms you will always be ahead of the OTA that non root users get since the developers update faster then Verizon.

I love the menu button on the home screen. Can you remove the google search bar and use that space with that ROM?

You can either root and run a mod to remove the Google Search or use this launcher which is very close to the stock launcher with a few more options.

Nova Launcher

PERFECT!!

That is awesome. So I am getting a new look but same great taste of the Google OS.

That helps a bunch!

Thanks everyone!

So that's it? No answer to the actual question posted?

I unlocked and rooted my Galaxy Nexus before installing the 4.0.2 OTA (ICL53F). I am now being prompted to install the update, but I can't due to running the custom recovery.

Is there a way to install the update while rooted?

I know I could install a new ROM. For that matter, I could go back to stock, install the update, then go from there. But those aren't answers to the question that I have, nor the question that the OP had.

Again, for clarity: Is there a way to install 4.0.2 in my current situation (Stock ROM, custom recovery, rooted).

Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

There is no way to install the OTA update while being rooted you would have to un-root to install.

Odin is the ultimate tool for Samsung phones. It can override anything and is also extra brick insurance :)
