Not using external SD Card

i have this same problem on a non-samsung device. the internal storage and /mnt/sdcard are being recognized as different partitions in my storage viewer under settings (ver 4.2). i have the option to move apps to the sd card in the apps manager as we all know, but when i do it goes to the sdcard partition which is actually the internal storage and the actual card is unaffected. any app data that should be going to the sd card is going into the /mnt/sdcard partition. not to mention the size of the partitions don't match up (although the fake sdcard's available space is less than the internal storage but data gets thrown into each separately according to the OS but file explorers show the /mnt/sdcard is the first subdirectory of the internal storage. sure i could just move everything out of said directory but any file explorer will not show me a directory above the /mnt/sdcard and windows doesn't even recognize /mnt/sdcard as a subdirectory. the fake sdcard is what is shown in windows and is also shown with the improper available space value. Both the internal storage partition and the fake sdcard partition can be half full but physics takes it's course and nothing will let me update or download although there is no insufficient storage error. So......... hopefully this bit of info helps guide the experts to a clear fix n less smart *** answers. This is much more than a samsung problem so perhaps it's not samsung's responsibility to fix this per se but any help is helpful. just don't totally blame them for the problem.

Go into My Files (in your apps) then click on the list icon in the upper right corner. Then click on settings. Click on Set home directory and change it to extSdCard. Then select Show categories and change the image, video, music and document directories to the extSdCard. Now your data will save to the SD Card. Good luck!
