Notch Question

Been playing around with my Pixel 3 XL for the past few days and really enjoy it for the most part.

Have a question regarding the notch, which to be honest, doesn't bother me at all, but just wondering if there is a way to adjust something about it and I'm missing something.

Most of the time when you are in an app, there is a line that run across the bottom of the notch. Much like it does in this application. On one side of the line is one shade of a color and other other side a slightly darker shade.

Is there a way to just extend the screen of the apps to use the entire screen and not just use the notch as a notification bar area? In some apps in sort of gets in the way. For example, in Yahoo fantasy football app. There is a dark box that hangs over the app. It's kind of weird.

Anyone know how to fix that? I have attached a screenshot.

This is most certainly a programming issue. The author needs to update his app to run properly on the Pixel 3 XL. Let the author know what is happening.

Does this happen with a lot of apps?

Do Google apps display properly with the notch?

Google apps display fine. It's the third party apps that have the issues. I do believe the above post is correct that it's a programming issue. I was just wondering if there was some sort of setting too.
